08 ford focus motor tax question??????

recieved my renewal for the above car today €478 for the year.:(
This is my first time taxing the car for the year (purchased used)
and am just wondering should this car be under the new co2 system
introduced in 2008 and if so how do i go about this. Car was first registered in aprill 2008. Its an irish car and its a 1.6litre petrol.
Just wondering can i save a few quid. cheers.

no april cars on engine size. post july cars are on co2 sorry.

Not quite.

Private cars registered between January 1st and June 30th 2008 are taxed on either CC or CO2, whichever is cheaper.

Any private car registered on and after July 1st 2008 is taxed on CO2 rates only.

Thanks for the quick replys. Does anyone know what the co2 rate for my
paticular car would be ? Just want to be sure im not overpaying.

It'll have gone straight onto the cheapest available rate when new.

€478 is the rate for 1600cc. Parkers has a 1.6 2nd gen focus at 159g/km. That puts you in band D which is €481, so you are actually on the cheaper rate, but there is only €3 in it.
