trial in crèche a rip of??!!!

    I would like anyone's opinion on this i hope its not a practice that happens often in crèches!

    I started looking for new job, I was pleased to go for interview and be offered a trial,
    I did the trail it went well,
    when I was leaving at the end of the day I was told by the manager the owner was in a meeting but would contact me, as the interview went well,
    i have the qualifications and experience so i was expecting a call.

    But a day later no call, i rang and when they knew it was me they stammered saying the owner had gone away til next week!

    when i thought over the day thinking what did i do wrong i remembered a HSE official visiting----is it possible they got me to come in to make up the numbers and correct ratio of staff to children for that day??? :mad:

    Did you get paid for the day?

    If not, contact Citizen's Information and ask them to help you get paid for it.

    The HSE Inspectorate are very under staffed . It's highly unlikely that the manager knew that the inspector was coming as their visits are unannounced . How long did you spend in the creche ? Where you on your own with a group of children ? You can not be employed by the creche until they have carried their vetting on you so you should not have been left on your own with children . Past vetting from other jobs won't do . If there was in fact an inspection during your trial , they would have got a non compliant by having you in the building . Try to stay optimistic ,they may be awaiting your referees to get back to them and for your vetting to be passed ( takes about 4-6 weeks from the GVU).

    I didn't get paid, I worked for three hours and was told I could leave when another girl arrived to do her trial, they didn't check my references as i'm still in contact with my past managers.

    I even brought my passport and drivers licence thinking they will need some form of id before I can be allowed work there even on a trail basis! but they didn't ask for anything.

    I wouldnt be suprised if you were there to make up the numbers ive been in a situation like that a couple of years back,i went up the the employer and in no uncertain terms did i tell him what i thought,gave my 2 cents and out the door,needless to say i didnt mention that 'work experience' on my cv or otherwise again..

    So they've given several people 3 hour trials, and they probably only have one job and are maybe embarrassed about it ... or maybe they just didn't like you - just 'cos a trial went well from your perspective doesn't mean they thought so.

    I actually think a trial is a brilliant idea, as long as you were never left alone with the children, and they did not lead you to believe you would be paid.

    I'm sure they had several applicants, all with similar qualifications and experience, and they wanted to see who interacted better with the children, and fellow staff in a real life situation.
