I used to relief milk for Frs , the fee was based on herd size , but should have been on time spent .. A modern parlour with slatted yard, easy drafting and well marked cows , decent paddocks and road ways you'd do big numbers in a couple of hours.. A small parlour with a long walk to paddocks ,fencing tape everywhere, no drafting , poor clean up facilities and "keep tag no xxxx out of tank , she's the black one with a White nose " ( not making that up ) and then bucket feed calves , including driving there and back could be well over 4 hours ....
Charge by the hour , get in and out fast , know what's expected before you start, ( calves? , cubicles?, throw an eye on dry stock/bull ? Clean the tank )
And insurance !!! If you've done 1 of the four milkings in a tank and there's a problem ....... Well you know it'll be you ...
That said it's a handy few bob ...and cash flow is king, remember the taxman will want his slice !!
