Looking at €1000+ I reckon if your out on your own. Get your full license ASAP. Insurance companies don't want to know ya if your on a provisional.

Your gonna have to get the phone book out and start ringing around, its the only way your going to find out how much it's going to cost you, insurance varies from person to person based on a lot of factors, of which you've only provided a few.

I dont know how much your insurance would be, but I'd seriously consider doing the Aviva Ignition course once you've passed your test, that gave me the best quote by far. I'm 22, have my licence less than 2 years, male and my insurance is now only €600 on a 1.2.

You could do a lot better.. I'm with Aviva, 1.6 Civic, 21, license 2 years, paying €1000. They class the Civic as high performance too so there's a premium on it. Ring around again I'd say :) What car do you have?

Go to chill.ie and bang in your details there. That should give you some indicator of what your looking at paying.

    Britton
    First Ireland
    ARB.ie

    Give them a try.

In some cases it can be cheaper to insure a 1.6 then a 1.2 so look at a wide range of cars that your interested in.

Definitely not in my case. Some companies wouldn't even insure me on that particular 1.6. Anyway, I just put the details into chill.ie cos I've nothing better to do. I put it in as 22 year old Male, 1 years no claims (I assumed you made no claims in that year of driving), 1992 1.3 Corolla worth €750. I don't know how close that is to your actual details but I got a quote of €1250 Third Party Fire & Theft. That said, I didn't go any further so it doesn't take into account that you're on a provisional.

EDIT: I went and did the same at aviva.ie. They gave a quote of €1790 TPF&T which does take into account your provisional license.

I've a Corsa, they quoted me €950 on a Focus ST the other day though :) Who are you with, out of interest.

Also, I've always got a much better quote by ringing, online quotation system doesn't seem to like me :D

I'm with Aviva. I also rang up but online was the only way that they would insure me. I had to insure it as a coupe model and I asked them before I went with it, if I could change the body to a hatch since they are the exact same engine. After a long time on hold, she said I could but I'd have to proceed with the online quote and they'd change body type over the phone. Very few places gave me quotes under 2000 so I jumped at that.
