Moving North and need info on benifits, housing ect please.

    Single parent currently on lone parents allowance, I get rent allowance weekly and child benifit is paid monthly here, (south). Im moving North but cud do with finding out the payments system, Can u get rent allowance as soon as u find a house or do u have to be on a council list like down here ? Also how much per week does one get, Im currently gtn 160 euro plus 30 per child weekly, and isnt child benifit paid weekly up North, not monthly ! Any help or info greatly appreciated , Thanks !:)

    Anecdotally you'll find benefits here significantly less lucrative (if thats the right word) than in RoI.

    be warned that there is getting to be a BIT of a cultural backlash against people who live on benefits, especially people who have never paid into the UK system... ie foreign nationals.

    I know that as a EU citizen we have the right to move to any EU country and claim what ever we're entitled to, but there is definitely an undercurrent of "come and take our jobs if you want, but if you want our dole then **** away off home"

    Of course, if you are a contributing earner and will add to the economy rather than be a drain on it, then come on ahead, you'll be very welcome!!
