    Hi,

I bought a Sony Xperia U within the last few days and, while I am quite pleased with it. (It's not an iClone for one thing). Only there're a few apps that cannot be uninstalled..... including the Facebook one.

Then again, my android-fu is not strong. Up until a week ago I owned an eight year old Nokia that finally just gave up fell over and died.

But, how do I expunge Facebook from the phone, and any other unwanted apps that can't be deleted by default?

They're system apps, so they can only be removed with "root"(admin mode), which currently requires it to be sim unlocked(so if you bought it from a network, not yours) and then to flash community software.

For a newbie to android, not worth doing. Just dont use it.

Facebook is almost system wide on the Xperia range. Its not worth the hassle trying to clear it all out

Eugghh. It's a good phone but has so much crap on it, multiple apps that do the same thing and the like and I can't remove them. Well, thanks anyway.

I'll have to destroy Facebook some other way.

According to google the ability to hide System apps is part of ICS so it might come in the upgrade to ICS from Sony for the Xperia U.

Or you could try this System app hider to hide it:
    https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.pants.android.apphider2

Otherwise you will need to root to remove it but that is very easy on Xperia phones and completely reversible but if your not tech savy and don't understand what it is properly then maybe not worth doing.

WAS. They fixed the test point exploit so its only easy with unlocked phones now.

Yeah, ICS will allow you do "disable" it from the app manager.
