Is it possible to get insured on a classic/vintage car at the age of 17/18

Hi, i recently found out that it would cost me around 2500 to get insured on a small car such as a mitsubishi colt at the age of 17 with a provisional licence. I then learned that it could be reduced to 1500 if i wait until i am 18 and have a full licence.

However, these premiums are too high so i was wondering if it would be possible to get a vintage or classic car and get vintage insurance on it and i have the following questions to ask.
    - how old does a car have to be to be classed as classic and vintage?
    - Do i have to be a certain age to get insured on a vintage or classic car?
    - Do the same rules apply as a normal car. ie engine size, modifications?

    Thanks

Classic car insurance policies typically come with a lot of conditions attached to them.

I haven't come across any that allow under 25's to drive.
Most require you to have another car insured in you own name.
    Most have mileage restrictions attached.
And most require a full license.

In other words it's a non runner. Running a car is expensive, especially when you're young. There really is no easy way around this, unless you wait until you're older.

1500 is a decent quote, but cars like Colts are not the easiest to insure. Yes they're small engined, small cars, but they have a reputation with boy racers. Try a micra or fiesta and see what the quotes are like.

I see, Thanks for the info. Sorry if i sound a bit stupid but i dont know too much about car insurance. Would it be any cheaper if, say, my father bought the classic car and put me down as a named driver with or without a full licence

    Won't work :(

Been there tried that.... I now have 3 cars sitting in the yard that I can't drive because I can't get insured.

Anyway best bet is a 1.25 Fiesta and just swallow the insurance costs. :)
