    Hi All,

I had a FTA setup for the last 2 years it was not great but it did the job. But last week i went up on the roof as the amount of channels on the box was decreasing and found that the dish and the arm had rusted the whole way through.

I am going to replace it and was wondering what FTA dish is best.

    I am in Galway

    Appreciate any advice

    Thanks

    Mugie

I would suggest a 'rust proof' Resin or Aluminium 80 cm. Dish. eg. http://compare.ebay.co.uk/like/230542690065?var=lv&ltyp=AllFixedPriceItemTypes&var=sbar&adtype=pla or
    http://www.tvaerials.com/product.aspx?productid=3755
I would certainly not sing the praises of the anti rusting properties of any 'Mesh Sky Dish'!!!

Is your dish on the chimney? If so, I'd not recommend putting 80cm dish up there, even though I'd agree that that size would be best overall, just not on the chimney.

I have a triax 60 cm dish on the gable of my house for the last 8 years ,not a bit of rust yet despite being 500 metres from the sea!.You also need a good bracket either stainless steel or alluminium.

    Thanks for the advice everybody.

I have a better idea of what i need to get now. Could anyone recommend a brand of dish to get or even a box and dish. I have a fortec star box but to be honest its not the best.

Dish wise, I quite like Triax or Inverto.

Did you try doing a new scan on your box as a lot of channels have moved in the last 2 years ? You could try this after you change your dish,It might save you buying a new box .If you are buying a new box you should consider an approved freesat box as they update themselves when channels move .

Excellent, thanks all , i think i might get a freesat box also as i would not have to keep rescanning.

Definitely Triax. See info here: http://www.satcure.co.uk/accs/seaside_dish.htm
You should be able to pick one up locally.

Thats great thanks, Was just wondering if i can use the other parts of the setup that i had. Do i just need to buy the dish itself and the wall mount ?

You'll need a different LNB than the Sky dish one. They are pretty cheap so you are as well to get a new one. (Get a 'Universal' LNB).

Edit - apologies, you never actually said what kind of dish you currently have. I assumed it was a Sky type dish but I may well be wrong.

triax all the way, put one up in 2006 and took it down last month as moving house and nuts moved as good as new and it never budged in the 6 years I had it.

for it to rust so quickly it just has to be a SkyDish!!!!

    Hi All,

Thanks again for the help. Really appreciate it.
