seeing as my thread questioning kevin ankrom's ability to conduct his job in an able manner was taken down due to 'lack of links' here are some links to the athlete in question who ankrom has signed up and has brought to ireland as we speak to receive treatment at the IIS from the AAI physio..notice her nationality has changed from america to irish...proving that i wasn't making any of my previous statements up...now if the resources applied to this athlete were given to home based athletes who are actually competing at the upcoming european championships wouldn't that make more sense? how is it that this athlete gets brought over to be treated by aai physios and other athletes can't even get all their expenses covered to attend a championships representing their country?

I don't see a major problem there, but of a non story really.

    What, exactly, is your argument?

    1. That the AAI should not allow athletes to transfer allegiance from another country to Ireland?
    2. That transferred athletes should not receive AAI support?
    3. That Irish-based athletes should receive preferential treatment for funding/support?
    4. That no funds should be spent on recruiting new athletes?
    5. That this athlete is receiving preferential treatment - funding and support that is denied to better Irish athletes?

I mean it's obvious that there's something you don't like here, but I can't tell what it is...
(apart from Kevin Ankrom of course:rolleyes:)

AAI should seek out athletes from other countries in events where we are weak..not events where we have a strong amount of irish girls ready to run..how would you feel like you spent 2 years qualifying the relay team only for a ringer to be brought in at the last minute..how does that foster the sport here at home? what message does that send out? yeah, we'll use u to get the team there and discard you the minute something better comes along, especially as this athlete's PBs aren't very good, is it smart to spend resources on her when she's no better then what we have??

she does not qualify under ankrom's magic carding structure for support so why is she receiving support?? under his criteria, she should be receiving NOTHING. those are his rules, the structures and systems he wanted in place and now he is breaking them to suit himself and whatever agenda he seems to be harboring.

why is it one rule for some and other rules for everyone else...i have ZERO problems with her receiving as much support as she wants, provided the same support to given to EVERY ATHLETE AT HER LEVEL....how can it be fair that she gets preferential treatment when other athletes, who are qualified for both europeans and olympics are not receiving the same support??? explain that to me please..i can list off half a dozen athletes who have as much right as she does and receive less...i am 100% behind supporting our athletes as much as we can, but not some over others...everyone should be treated the same.

i never said irish based athletes receive preferential treatment..I SAID ALL ATHLETES RECEIVE EQUAL TREATMENT..if there's a small pot of funding to go round why is some of it being spent on an athlete who's not qualified for anything when athletes who ARE go short changed? this GOES AGAINST ANKROM'S OWN DOCUMENTS

funds being spent on new recruits is fine when the budget is in surplus...not when funds are extremely tight and those who suffer from the lacks of funds are athletes preparing for a major championships..how can this be a smart way to spend your resources? let's fly ankrom to america, let him tour around recruiting people but not have the money to pay costs to an athlete to travel to helsinki?? have no pre season training camps for the athletes preparing for the biggest summer in 4 years? HOW DOES THIS MAKE SENSE?

To ensure transperancy can you declare you interest / connection with this subject? Your "passion" may suggests that you are far to close to be objective.

On the IAAF website it states that the athleted has dual citizenships (IRL/USA) since birth. She competed for USA during the WJC Moncton 2010 (4x400)
    http://www.iaaf.org/athletes/biographies/country=irl/athcode=250005/index.html

Is there not a 2 year rule regarding changing countries that would rule her out of the Irish time for London. She is also only a Sophmore so will be stuck in the collegiate system for atleast another 2 years. We wont get the true benefit of her for another 2-3 years. If she is faster then the 4th runner, declares for Ireland, then it can only help the team.

    All above IMHO!

Wow, at last some actual points to discuss.

    1. Surely you get the best athletes you can, in whatever events you can. If you can't find a brilliant shot putter but you can find a sprinter better than the ones you have, you take the sprinter. Doesn't everyone on the relay team understand that they are only on the team so long as they are the best available? I don't think any of them expect to be carried. (Of course it's a kick in the teeth to lose your place, but that's what happens)

    2. If an athlete who doesn't qualify for support is receiving support, that's a good point. Why didn't you say this in the first place?

    3. Again, if there are other athletes who are the same standard or better, but not receiving the same level of support, that is a good point. Name names.

    4. It's reasonable to ask how much is being spent on recruitment tours to the US, and ask if there are other things it could be spent on.

One more question. What do you expect posters on boards to do about any of this?

AAI should seek out athletes from other countries...

If you have no objection to this then you can have no real objection to Sanura.

The rest just seems to be a diatribe against Kevin Ankrom.

disappointed in your response domer, as i thought you were a man of sense...she is eligible to run for ireland now, as of april 2012...i have no issue with this athlete joining us, the crux of the problem is that she receives support from AAI when those who are preparing for major championships this summer DO NOT...it's great that hopefully she'll still be in the sport in 2-3years time etc etc...but that still doesn't explain why those getting ready for helsinki and london go without..if anything you merely back up my point..if she's not going to be ready to run for us til you say, 2-3years..and she's in college where she's better supported thru the NCAA system than anything available in ireland, why are valuable resources going towards this project now when the immediate issue is athletes we have ready to run in major championships NOW?

also, the 2 year rule goes out the window if both associations agree to the transfer and as I've already stated she is eligible to run for us tomorrow.

in post-tiger ireland every expenditure has to be questioned and weighed up..is it better to spend money on an athlete who will form part of the relay in the future (according to you) when athletes GOING TO HELSINKI AND LONDON are forced to go without?? please answer me that. <Snip>

What's going on behind the scenes at the AAI? Judging by the threads we get on here, everyone puts paper bags over their heads and then goes mudwrestling

You say she is not entitled to support but from what I know her time is well within the standard to class her as "Emerging talent" couple that with the fact that with NCAA rules meaning she is not actually recieving monetary aid but rather physio services only (unless you know something more because so far this is the "aid" you have listed) it sounds to me like it is in fact in line with Ankroms structure

Just took a look at fedupwithitall's info:

Created boards a/c on June 14th
Made 5 posts (all bitching about the 1 guy)
Closed boards a/c on June 14th

Makes me feel a bit better about myself;)

Who are the athletes you think are not getting funding?
