Hi all, my sister is renting a house in Kenmare for a week in August. It will be herself and her husband and three young kids (4,3 and 3 months!) She is looking for some kid friendly attractions for both sunny (hopefully) and rainy days. Is there a nice beach nearby? I think the beach in Kenmare is stony, so just wondering how far the nearest sandy beach is? What about a swimming pool or monkey maze type place, where would the closest be? Basically she is just looking for any ideas to keep the little ones amused for the week. Thanks in advance.

The nearest nice beaches to Kenmare is in Castle Cove and they are 30 miles away and you also have the bigger Derrynane beach further west. There is also a nice beach in Allihies in West Cork but it is a longer drive. There is a local Swimming pool in the Kenmare Bay Hotel which is open to non-residents and there is also a Kids playground next to the Super Valu & Lidl shopping centre. On the 15th of August in Kenmare there is a fair day and the whole town will be thronged with a few thousand people and around that time is Kenmare's busiest period.

There's a good open farm just outside Killarney and Killarney itself and Muckross are worth a day out even in inclement weather.
