Hi All,

Hope someone can help here.

My sister has just finished her third year of Nursing in DCU. One more to go!

She has managed to get herself a summer job but needs proof of her garda clearance / vetting. She also needs to obtain copies of her course certificates e.g. manual handling, CPR, first aid, etc. but the the college wont give her anything. Wont even give her a letter stating she is in the college!!

Has anyone ever been in this position before? Did you get what you were looking for and how?

She has tried everything!

Any advice would be greatly appreicated.

Who is she going to for the letter proving she is a student? It is bizarre that she wouldn't be given one....considering they give them out nearly every day.

Just tell her to go to the registry in the Henry Grattan and she will get that.

For everything else tell her go to the SU. Sounds like she's simply not asking the right people. I doubt the college would be at that.

As XPS says it sounds like your sister is not asking the right people.

Last year I went to the Registry to get proof of address and proof I was a student, 2 minutes later I walked out with everything I needed no questions asked.

If your sister has a personal tutor get her to contact them and ask who would be able to provide what she is looking for or alternatively the head of her year or course.

I unsure why she is looking for Garda clearance from DCU? Any Garda clearance you get is only valid for the employer that got it. It is not transferable between employers. Her new employer has to seek it f they need it.


Also I am unsure whether they is any certificates to be gotten for manual handling etc surely they were part of modules like CA's if you did not pass you did not progress. Surely a transcript of her results to date would do.

Hey JD24, sorry to hear your sister has been having trouble but I'm not sure how? I'm a first year nurse at DCU and I got everything employers look for very easily, in most cases with one email.

Get her to email her Pathway leader and she will get a reference / statement no bother. Do the same with registry.

The skills such as CPR and manual handling were completed in first year as its a requirement to have them. I received my certificate shortly after completing them. I would of thought you would have to redo these skills every year or two so shouldn't be hard to get. Ask around and see if she can remember who was the module coordinator.

The Gardi vetting may be a problem. Companies / hospitals generally dont release the details. Has she only ever fitted one out for the hospital in which she has been doing placement?
Ive been told it is within your rights to request a copy but would she really want to go causing trouble with the people who are doing her assessment, especially in final year? May just have to leave this one to companies one comes back which may be anything from 3 weeks to months.

I'm not sure why she is having any trouble as I had everything I needed within a day or two.
