Is there a way of switching off the clock on a UPC HD box?

Got one of these in the bedroom for watching a bit of tv late at night the only thing is when I switch it to standby when I'm ready to go asleep, a digital clock appears on the channel window and it brightens up the whole room - meaning I have to get up and switch it off by the power button on the back. Would be a lot handier to be able to get rid of the digital clock....can this be done?

I don't think it's possible to switch off the clock entirely but if you have one of the newer UPC boxes, in the settings options you can switch to a lower power setting. This will make the clock less bright which should help you with your problem.

Further to my previous message. The precise option within "Settings" is "Power Consumption in Standby". You need to switch this from High to Low. One word of caution though, I used this option before and tried to record a programme overnight while in standby, but because this option puts the box into a deeper sleep then normal, it dropped the recording.

I have mine set to that and have never had it miss recording something set.

It'll wake up to record if you have it scheduled but it'll miss remote recordings if set to low power standby. The remote recording won't be picked up till the box is switched back on
