So the Examiner have done a photoshoot and interview, and now Woman's Way are doing one too. I don't think I can hope that my parents are not going to see at least one of them.

Any suggestions how I tell them that all the fuss is because I'm writing explicit sex?

    Ouch.

I'd die of shame at having to tell my parents that. Nothing for it but telling whichever one you're closer to and just hoping they accept it. :D

Hey, you didn't arrive in this world by stork Eileen... ;)

Look, I think you're overlooking the fact that you're a published author with a few interview spreads coming up. They'll be far more thrilled with your success than the fact you've written sex scenes in a book. Just give them a heads up before they find out themselves without you telling them.

Yeah, not convinced they'll take that attitude. The only thing I have going for me is that they are definitely not going to be reading it, so maybe I can convince them it's a fuss over nothing.

And I know, I'm a full grown adult, it's daft to be reduced to a kid again at the thought of their reaction.

Just hope that nothing in your book accidentally matches up with anything in their history.

Bet that made you feel better.

What makes you so sure? Most parents would want to read whatever their darling has published, even if they wouldn't look sideways at it if it was written by anybody else.
It's a long time since I read Woman's Way but in those days they didn't feature hard porn writers so your work might not be as shocking as you think. Same goes for the Examniner. 'Woman writes about sex' is hardly news. The fuss could be because it is a good book that people will want to read.

Just tell them the truth - 'sex sells'. Most older people, including our parents, are a lot more broadminded than we think.

The husband of the woman who wrote "50 shades of grey" gave an interview saying that he had helped his wife during the drafting phase by acting out the scenes.

Maybe warn your other half not to run to the Daily Mail with a similar tale.:D

    Congrats Eileen!

My mother in law reads Woman's Way and I'll tell her to be on the lookout.

Let us know when the Examiner is going to publish your interview, I'd love to read it.

If I were you I'd be honest with the folks about your book. Maybe do it over the phone so you don't have to see their faces then give them a bit of time to get used to the idea.

It would be worse for it to be niggling you when you should be enjoying your success.

    xx

The journalist asked me for a couple of 200 word extracts that give an idea of what to expect, except not too explicit. The good news is that she now says she's going to buy the book.

I'll let you know when it comes out.

Ew! The heroine of 50 Shades was damn lucky she had no gag reflex. And the hero ends up totally pussy whipped. I don't think I'd admit to either of those.
