Didn't see this posted anywhere on here so I thought I'd post it in case there's anymore Opel/Vauxhall enthusiasts out there that would like to go.

This is the 5th year and when I attended the run I always found it an enjoyable day.

Took this from the Facebook Page:
With this being the fifth year of the Run we are concentrating on the roads of West Cork and South Kerry areas. Some of the countrys most scenic countryside and landscape and some roads that have been used as rally stages in the past will be travelled.

The 2012 Run will be based at the Eccles Hotel in Glengarriff, Co Cork. There are special Accomidation rates for those who wish to stay in the Hotel. These are €50 pps for a one night stay, or €40 pps per night, for a two night stay. Please contact the Hotel to book, and reference the Opel Run and bookings must be made before 12th July. The Eccles Hotel number is 027-63003.

On the 11th August, Registration will take place from 9am -10am and departing the Hotel grounds at 10.15, SHARP. A fee of €20 per car will apply and each driver will receive a starter pack, (including raffle tickets for all passengers, young and old). We will travel from Glengrarriff towards Adrigole and up the Healy Pass, on to Kenmare Bridge and returning to Glengarriff via Bonane and the Tunnell’s. Once back at the Eccles Hotel, we will stop for Lunch.

Lunch is available to those who wish to avail of it, at a cost of €15 per person, (LUNCH = choice of 2 Main course, Dessert, T/C). Lunch payment will be taken and Meal Voulchers given at registeration. After Lunch we will have a raffle and a presentation of some of the Awards.

Then we will set off on the second leg of the Run. We will depart the Hotel grounds and head for Bantry, on to Durras, Ahakista, (here we will make a brief stop at the site of the “Air India Disaster” Garden of Rememberance) on to Kilcrohane, with a stop here for light refreshments and continuining on over the Goat’s Path into Bantry and returning to the Eccles Hotel in Glengarriff where after a rest there will be as alway,s a great Social night. As always we will have 4 Special Awards to be awarded to cars at various locations, these will be chosen by independent individuals. There is also the Perpetutual Shield to be handed out, which will be drawn from all the cars perticipating in the Run, (this gives everyone a fair chance of winning it, be it a Vintage or Modern car).

For those who wish to continue on the Sunday we will be attending the Crookstown Vintage Day.

All you need to attend is an Opel or Vauxhall of any era, so come and join us for a breathtaking scenic drive through the Southwest.

For further information contact:- Ted 086 3256751, Darren 087 6185749.

Drove the Goats path in a Bedford CF 250 last year. Scary road!
Do I qualify as a Vauxhall?

Could somebody please tell me what this 20 euro fee is for? I brought my opel to the run in cork last august and i was charged a total of 50 euro for me and the mrs. 30 of that was for dinner that was not that good and took about 3 hours. I asked what charity the 20 euro was for but no one could tel me. it was an expensive day out. I heard that there is another opel run on the same day in the west of ireland and this run is FREE. i will go the the FREE run. i dont make enough money to give 20 euro to some stranger for a bag of rubish. anyone else going to or know about the run in the west of ireland?

I don't mind paying a fee for something that is well organised and it was optional to attend ,from what I recall nobody was forced to go on the run, most events require an entry fee of some sort. I for one thought that it was great last year and well worth paying for.

€15 for 3 course was great value but it seems like we were at a different event because there was no wait ,and with a crowd of I don't know maybe over 100 people and the food was fantastic. also this was optional as friends of mine with kids had their own picnic and didn't avail of the meal.

and the items etc in the packs I found this useful like the bottled water etc. and the mug is a collectors item. Have them all bar one. :( wonder would they have one spare

Then the spot prizes that evening were more then I thought they would be several weekend breaks away given out. Unfortunately I didnt win but hopefully if there's some this year I'll be lucky ;)

Another thing I never remember them saying this was for Charity so isn't it the organisers business if they did or did not donate something to charity.

This event has been on the past 5 years and it will be this one I will attend. Why has someone decided to host another Opel/Vauxhall run on the same date as this one? It doesn't make sense , it's not like Ireland is that big. Guess whoever organised the one in the west didn't research it enough , maybe someone should tell them about this one. no point they clashing really, country is too small.

M A Opel, what do you think this country is? A democracy? You should know we live in Communist Ireland under the dictatorship of Enda and Phil. You will be forced to go to Teds run, at gun point and ordered to eat the meals provided and under no circumstances do you have a choice.

I haven't been on this run yet but I'm aiming to attend this year. I have heard many good reports on this event and how it's run. It's quite simple, if you don't want to go then don't go.

Well the run I was on last year was a total opel event and I have found out that the other run in Galway this year is being organised by total opel but some of the people doing the organising are different. They seem to do a run in August every year. I am sure they did their research when they decided on the weekend for the first run.

Anyway you are right it is peoples choice is they want to pay people so they can drive their cars around Cork for a day or not pay anyone and drive around Galway for a day. My choice is the Not Pay option.

I have a part in organising the OTHER OPEL RUN as you call it in galway ,

but the credit go's to a young girl called jennifer in connamera ,who has organised a great day out free of charge in galway .

as we ( totalopel/opelowners club of ireland )have held the annual run in cork for the last few years and people wanted a change this year .
Also we fell its about time people got something out of this event and not have to pay for the privalage ,so hence the free event !

now im not going to get in to a who,s run is better debate .
its up to whoever to come on whatever run the feel is best suited to them on the day !!

so hope ye have a good day out and the weather holds out for any run on that day !!

ohh and a plug for the galway run :D

I'm really looking forward to Ted's Run this year. I should have a couple of cars following me down on the day too.
Last years event was brilliant with over 80 cars in attendance! It has gained a great reputation due to the great buzz and atmosphere that surrounds it each year. This will be my 4th year attending.

I can't understand why a handful of people decided to have another run on the same weekend. The Opel/Vauxhall community is small enough in the country without trying to split it up!

I watched the slow train crash on total opel last year brought on by some very spiteful and envious people who's sole intent was to destroy a well organised and very enjoyable day out for the owners of Opel cars from across the country.
You have to be a real mean and miserable git to complain about a 20 euro entry fee for an event that takes over 10 months to organise and has always ran like clockwork over the previous years ,but perhaps the complaint is more malicious than financial.......
If you don't want to or can't afford to enjoy a sit down lunch for a very reasonable cost then buy a bottle of lemonade and a packet of Tayto's out of Lidl.
The guys who organise this do it out of the goodness of their hearts and for the enjoyment of others not to salt away huge wads of cash in an offshore account , as was suggested by more than one last year..............FFS.

Oh , and lets not pretend that the Galway event just coincidently fell on the same day as Ted's run , it's very transparent to all and quite sad really.
