Hi, I was just wondering- if possible should I go in to the places with my cv and cover letter rather than/as well as emailing it in? Does that look better or do they only want you to email in?

    Do what the advert says.

If they want personal applications, the advert will say so.

If it's to be mailed in, then do that.

If it's to be posted, then do so.

What if it doesn't specify ie I find a job on myjob.ie and it has a place below the ad where I can apply but the ad doesn't specify that it must be done through the website or any other way? They have a telephone number, email address and actual address for this place - should I go to the place then?
I just think it looks better to put yourself forward in a confident way rather than applying in a more anonymous way.

    I don't understand...

Normally, it will tell you in the ad how the applications will be handled. I presume you're looking for retail work? Apologies if I'm wrong...

If you go round to the premises 'on spec', I can guarantee you won't get to see anyone in HR, never mind the hiring manager. And, very likely your CV may not get to the right people or even worse be filed under 'B'!

In my experience, appearing in person just shows you're unable to follow simple instructions. (i.e how to apply for the role).

    Just my 2c's worth.

All you need to do is follow the directions. You will either upload your resume or copy/paste the information from your resume into an online resume builder or application. There also may be an option to upload a cover letter and an example of a good cv. Again, follow the instructions and it will step you through the process. Employers want you do to what they ask and they don’t have much tolerance for applicants who don’t follow the rules.

The chances are that you reply by email. Most, if not all the jobs posted on the internet, will be automatically email applications. If not, it will be stated. Best of luck.
