I did the GRE last September. After you register they send you out some practice material, including a CD containing software which is very similar to the actual exam. I found this particularly useful, because the interface wasn't completely new to me when I took the exam. I think you can download the software somewhere from the ETS website, too.

Depending on what your undergrad is in, you'll probably find either the English stuff or the Maths stuff a lot easier. Coming from a physics background, I found the maths GRE stuff particularly easy when I was going through the sample papers. However I underestimated the amount of time it takes me to work through problems, and during the actual exam I got a bit stuck for time and rushed through several maths problems. Practicing while timing yourself would be really useful, I didn't do too much of that for the maths section and I regretted it.

I found the English parts of the exam quite challenging, I hadn't written any sort of essay since my Leaving. I discovered that ETS actually have all possible questions for the issue topics, and the argument topics online (here and here). You probably won't have time/be bothered to practice all of these, but practicing a few of them and timing yourself is definitely worthwhile. Remember when you're practicing to type out your answers instead of writing; you'll be typing for the actual exam.

I bought a practice book (can't remember which one now) but to be honest I didn't find that I used it very often, it was a bit of a waste of money considering it was like €30. There's more than enough practice and prep material online, in my opinion. If you have any specific questions, let me know.
