Hey, anyone interested in a bulk purchase of golf balls?
I'm thinking of these 100 Pearl Prov1 for €194 delivered.

Greebo, you must be planning on having two rounds of golf this weekend instead of one are you :p

No thanks, far too many are bleached to death and have been sitting in water for ages.

Aside from that, how many do you lose? based on needing a 100 it looks like at least two a round .... spend the money on lessons :D

Hilarious, might have been funnier if Dr Silly hadnt made the exact same joke 2 hours earlier...

    1) You seem to be super at maths, but yet failed to notice that half of 100 is 50.
    2) They are practice balls...used for practicing. Practicing with 1 ball is somewhat tiresome.
    3) They are pearl grade so are not bleached or sitting in lakes for ages.

oh and mikeunt banned for persistent trolling

GreeBo, I was in American Golf in Dundrum and asked them to cut me a deal on ProV1 practice balls (identical to brand new ones, just rejected due to cosmetic reasons which I've never identified, see below).

Got 4 dozen for €80. Cheaper than the 2nd hand ones you're getting. Just a suggestion in case you're interested.

    Titleist website:
"Pro V1 Practice golf balls are conforming products that differ only due to a cosmetic blemish such as paint, ink or registration of stamping. Pro V1 Practice golf balls do not have any construction or performance deficiencies."

    Hi,
I bought balls like these before and on the whole they are great u will find maybe 10 out of the 100 that don't fee right as they will have been sitting in water for too long. I think any ball that has been bleached cuts up easier. I know i just get 1 round out of a pro v if i don't loose it as it is cut to bits by the end so paying 4 euros a ball is not really a option.
I know get my balls off a guy on adverts (Gopher) he basically walks the Island, Royal Dublin and the 2 Portmarnocks and picks up what he finds he so all the balls are almost brand new and in great condition they are 20 quid a dozen so good value.

About 2 and 4 weeks ago, bought 2 dozen twice for €40. (and no, I didn't lose all of first 2 dozen in 2 weeks!)

Only problem with these is that you usually get 6 ProV1 and 6 ProV1x - great deal though for €20

Never experienced that, but checked the boxes before buying, all Prov1s.

If you look at the box it says ProV1 models may very - so it's usually a mix of V1 and V1x:

I think its a great idea to use the same ball for practice as you would normaly play. I made a big mistake by using any old balls I had lying around for chipping practice (have a lovely area set up in the garden 35m & 5m apart) Some of them would be years old. After a while I copped on that I wasn't getting anyway similar result when playing. Even someone of my ability spotted the difference!!

I got a load of free Srixon 333's recently and use half of them for practice and the other half for playing as they are all pearl grade and must say it has helped a bit. The rest of my game is a work in progress but eliminating one thing at a time its getting better!!

I must have been lucky, in about ten purchases I've never come across 1 Prov1x ball. Have seen boxes of practice Prov1x before though. It says on the box they may vary, which may just mean not guaranteed all the same, but not necessarily likely to be different. There's multiple times more Prov1's in circulation than there is Prov1x's, so the ratio of rejects is likely to be about the same.

sorry i got it wrong, its 50 prov1s for €75....

    still only €1.25 a ball.

theyd be grade A/Pearl but grand for us mortals.

How I would love to practice with decent balls in my garden - unfortunately I am the proud owner of a cocker spaniel that shreds balls, literally, in the space of about 20 minutes. Between the price of a pro v and the speed at which the dog shreds the softer balls they're definitely a no goer!

Unfortunately the dog is the boss in my garden - I gave in to that fact a long time ago. I kind of get the feeling he's playing with me and the golf balls as opposed to me practicing my golf and playing with the dog.

Anyway, apologies for dog related hijacking of thread!

This seems like a pretty good deal to me, 72 balls for £30 plus post.

Not the same thing......these are lake balls, not new

I think if you're using them for practice they're fine and will find it hard to get a better price.

I use them for short game practice so if they dont react the same way as normal balls then they are not much use.

Well if you're that good that you'll notice the difference, then they are not for you and you should be on tour.

i thingk it is so expensive!! you can find the cheap in other website!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,140 ✭✭✭✭TheDoc

my pro shop does 6 for 10 quid.

I just grab a few every now and again, use them both for practice and keep some in good nick for actual comp play.

But tbh i dont normally go to the effort of seperating them between practice and actual comp use.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 27,367 ✭✭✭✭GreeBo

I'd use them for play for 1-2 rounds and then keep them as short game practice.
I have regular "hard" balls for regular, full shot practice.

I did have 20-30 old prov's in my practice bag but I find it hard to not play a few holes after practicing...hitting a few balls....and its very easy to lose them in the rough when you are playing on your own (and hitting each ball in different directions!) :o

Going to hit American Golf tomorrow since the course appears to be closed :(

Went to American golf today and they only had one box of practice provs and they wouldn't go any lower than 25. mcguirks didn't stock them at all.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,800 ✭✭✭Senna

I reckon the ProV1 practice aren't even rejects, there is no marks or defects and if Titleist are making that many rejects why aren't other companies selling rejects as well.
I'd guess they make the balls for that cheap that instead of reducing prices, they just box some up as practice and still get more money of them than the like of NXT's but still keep the ProV1's in an elite price range.

What is the difference between Pro V1 Practice and Pro V1 X-out golf balls?

Thank you for your inquiry regarding the differences between Titleist Pro V1 Practice and Pro V1 X-Out golf balls.

The Acushnet Company invests significant time and effort to ensure that our products are Best-in-Class in terms of quality, performance and consistency. As such, in the rare event one of our products fails to meet USGA requirements for size, weight, velocity or any other conformance criteria we destroy rather than market such products.

As such, only products that are of a minimal defect are available for purchase. These products are available in two offerings:

    1. Pro V1 Practice golf balls are conforming products that differ only due to a cosmetic blemish such as paint, ink or registration of stamping. Pro V1 Practice golf balls do not have any construction or performance deficiencies.

    2. Pro V1 X-Out golf balls are also conforming products. However, they usually have a cosmetic blemish and/or occasionally have a minor physical defect that should not significantly affect its performance. More often than not, the physical condition causing the ball to be stamped as an X-Out is so minute that it is not recognizable by the player.

Both products may be used in the casual round of golf including those with scores posted for handicaps, and most competitions, with the possible exception of high level competitions invoking the Local Rule requiring balls to be on the List of Conforming Golf Balls. Please refer to the USGA Official Rules on the subject listed below for your reference:

Was thinking about using euro golf balls for a couple dozen pro v1 X. Thinking of switching to this from the TM penta

    Anymore recent feedback?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 493 ✭✭hades

I got 50 AAA TaylorMade TP Black off them recently, and they were in superb condition.

I have to say i got some AAA Titleist NXT Tour's off them in the past and they were a bit rough. And they seemed to cut up and loose any shine really easily. Haven't ever found that with brand new NXT Tour, or Pro V. Could've been a bad batch. But the TP Blacks are superb.

Was just reading this thought it maybe of interest. A lot of lake balls are washed in bleach so that is the reason the cover cuts up quicker. Think you are better off with pick ups instead of lake balls.
Lake balls - are they just as good as new?

There is no doubting that lake balls seem an attractive investment, but are they just as good as new? Well the answer is no. Tests into the effect that water had on balls resting at the bottom of lakes were carried out and they discovered that balls that have spent time in water travel less than new, or simply dry golf balls. Balls that had spent 8 days in water produced drives six yards less than the benchmark ball. Balls that had spent 3 months submerged in water travelled 12 yards less, and balls kept in water for 6 months went 15 yards less. This may sound like a sizeable difference, however for the average golfer a lake ball can be a very good investment. Considering the price of new golf balls in the market today, buying lake balls is a cheap way to enjoy the game. The chance to pay a lot less for some of the best balls around is one that many golfers take and don't regret. Many lake ball companies re-cover balls in a shiny gloss that makes them appear new. This cover will wear and the ball may discolour slightly, but will not affect the balls flight or roll. There is no doubt that the occasion lake ball can be a very sensible investment, but just remember the next time you scoop a Pro V1 from the lake that all that glitters is not gold.
