Summer Camp - Photography advice

    Hi all,

I'm new to this forum - just looking for some general advice!

I got a job working at a summer camp in Spain, and one of my main responsibilities will be camp photographer - taking photos of excursions, sports, games, activities etc and uploading them to the camp website.
I have an interest in photography, but wouldn't consider myself anything more than a novice.

Do you have any tips on taking photos of people, sports etc? How to make them exciting, interesting? I know absolutely nothing about changing camera settings, exposure etc, like I said I'm a complete beginner.

Any help, advice or tips would be greatly appreciated!

From a legal point of view, you'd want to make sure your employers have all the necessary legals & permissions sorted out in advance of taking picture of (presumably) minors. Especially if they're being uploaded to a public website.

As regards the photography itself, make sure you know how to focus on moving targets :)

Put your camera on Auto, shoot jpeg and don't worry about the technical side. Concentrate on getting the people in the shots. The holidaymakers are only interested in seeing themselves on the camp website so they are not looking for expertise. Just shoot loads and enjoy it.

Unless of course the camp website is hoping to sell the photos on to the people in them.......then you need to put a bit more effort into it. You need to learn how to use your camera properly - especially what's called the "creative" side of it - in other words NOT Auto.
