Blatantly stolen from slowtwitch, not a pissing competition etc, can be used to see who has a good position, or comparing yourself to others on the same day/course since we're all in Ireland there will probably be a few people doing the same races.

    1) Average watts (AP, NP)
    2) Average speed (km/h)
    3) Distance (km)
    4) Rider weight (kg)
    5) Describe bike and wheels
    6) Misc notes, excuses
    7) Optional: a picture (or link to a picture) of you in your aero position.

I'll start with my data from Athy

    1) 157 AP, 165 NP
    2) 29.3 km/h
    3) 20 km
    4) 61 kg
    5) Standard road bike (Giant Defy), T2+ DL aerobars
    6) First race using powermeter, OK'ish pacing. I didn't push enough (Pw:Hr -3.70%)

Slightly pointless post. Sorta need a wattage figure to make this work!

I believe the idea was that people could look up what wattages gave people of similar weights speeds on what courses so they could predict performances. Doesn't necessarily work.

Its interesting to see what people are pumping out and what returns they get though.

to make this work it also needs to say how much drafting was done
and lets face it who is going to be honest... nobody i ever spoke to has drafted ....

What classifies as drafting, when catching others I did ride up behind them to within 2-3m and then move out and overtake,

however I did not sit on anyone's wheel, althought it was done to me.

In Ironman races you'd be done for drafting, slingshotting not allowed in them.

what I am trying to say is if you want to find out about position and gear you all have to meet up one day have a proper protocol ( best on a track )
tests done in a race can not give a fair pic as there is too many variables.
of cours part of triathlon is positioning so after a proer test done you can then see who races the smartest ;-)

Thanks, I honestly was not aware of it. wont happen again.

No race to go off as yet to complete one :) but at least it gives an idea of setup and power/pace ratio.

No drafting either unlike Tunney above who was clearly drafting in Athy with those numbers and pace;)

    1) 229AP, 236NP
    2) 34.9 km/h
    3) 18.4 km
    4) 68 kg
    5) P2 with Zipp 404 front and 404 rear with disc cover
    6) Not race pace merely testing disc cover. If i recall it was windy and i just had a big slice of pizza beforehand, i also had stabilisers on.
    VI of 1.03

    Kilkee 2012
    1) 232NP, 226Avg
    2) 32.5 (km/h)
    3) 44 (km)
    4) 70 (kg)
    5) Tri bike, Felt TTR3 wheels
    6) No idea how to determine this

Anyone provide pointers on working out number 6 - I'm referring to the cardiac drift that tunney mentioned in his entry

Not sure GC determines cardiac drift or VI but WKO does if there is a trial version for you to upload it to.

    hey Pgibbo

here is the link and below the formula, Some of the training software does this for you, personally I have a power tap and use their software; which does not calc this for you :(, so once the data is uploaded I open the pt file and export to excel which allows me to do the below calcuations,

    hope this help,
    http://home.trainingpeaks.com/articles/cycling/aerobic-endurance-and-decoupling,-by-joe-friel.aspx
    1. Determine power-heart rate ratio for first half of ride: Power average = 180 watts, Heart rate average = 135 bpm. First half power-heart rate ratio = 1.33 (180 / 135)
    2. Determine power-heart rate ratio for second half of ride: Power average = 178 watts, Heart rate average = 139 bpm. Second half power-heart rate ratio = 1.28 (178 / 139)
    3. First half ratio minus second half ratio = 0.05 (1.33 - 1.28)
    4. Remainder divided by the first half ratio = 0.038 (0.05 / 1.33) Decoupling rate is 3.8%

Cheers lads. I have a version of WKO at home so will load the file there. I've been struggling to find time to load to WKO lately and just use GC as I can do it at work.

Same here, GC on Linux and WKO+ on Windows...

Would a table be a good idea for this thread to make it easier to compare numbers?

Have we anyone on the thread that's good with tables?

As a lurking cyclist checking out your new forum (looks good by the way - hope not to come across any of you in the Dispute Resolution Forum;)), my stats from my last 40km TT (Batterstown course):

    1. Ave 259w, NP 265w (been nearly 20w higher but 1.4kph slower with road bike + clip-ons)
    2. 38.5kph
    3. 40km
    4. 84kg
    5. Giant Trinity Alliance TT bike - 808 Firecrest on front, 900 on back
    6. Picture is from last year (I've lost about 7-8kg since then)
