Hi, hoping to get a newish car soon and wanted to have an idea of trade in value of my current car so as not to look like a gullible fool on the forecourt!

    2004 mark 5 golf, 110k miles, 5 door 1.4 petrol. Nct passed.
    Excellent condition internally.
External good too except for Damage to plastic grill at front where pigeon decided to commit suicide.

Also have an old opel corsa that isus off the road. 80k miles 1.3 5 door petrol. Nct passedsd.
Think the garages would have any interest itaking that as well?

    Thanks guys

It depends on what you're trading it in against. A simple formula is to add the trade value of your car to the available cash discount on the car you're buying.

Without sounding like a thicko, how would I find the trade value of a car?

Better off selling private, removing cash discount and taking into account cars value you are gonna lose near 2 grand

There is no definitive answer to that question. One garage could offer you a million euro for it but they might want more cash from you for the new car than another garage that offers you €5k against a similar car.

My point is, concentrate on the cost to change figure, ie the figure the garage want from you with your old car for the newer one. Part exchange/trade-in prices are always glossed up to make them appear more attractive when all they do is add it back onto the price of the car you are buying.

you're probably talking about 2500-3500 trade in value on the golf (here's one on cbg with similar specs: http://www.cbg.ie/car_detail.aspx?ID=5081663)

he's a dealer and probably wouldn't have paid more than what i said above, what year is the corsa?

4000 for a private sale on the golf 3000 trade sale price. They will have no interest in the corsa

I traded exact same car in recently (same year, engine etc. Golf) and went to about 7 garages. Each one said they would give me €3k. I had around 115k miles on mine and in good condition.

nothing to do whith the whats the value of my car thing (which i think is gone)

my suggestion is based on a dealers price for the car, which he probably has a 500 euro leway on it leaving him with circa 1k profit.

    Basically

    Trade in value: 3500
    Negotiation leway 500
    Profit margin 1000

    Total 5k.

it won't be too far away from that
