Hi - Sorry if i am not allowed to post this here but i am a 29 year old male who was severely physically abused (never sexually)by both parents when i was young, up to around the age of 15 - 16. Left home for college at 17 and have never moved back since. I have an older sister who got it even worse than i did, she lives in the UK now and there is a very bitter relationship between us, mostly coming from her. I always had an ambitious streak in me that made me want to get on and i am now working as a professional in dublin and have my own place.
Started going out with a woman in December and i ended up telling her some stuff the other night. She suggested that i go to a Counsellor even for one or two sessions and that it might end up doing me the world of good.
So i wrote on boards to see if anybody could recommend a good place to ring, preferably in the city center. I would prefer to go to Counselling where the Counsellors actually asks you questions and gets bits of information out of you that way. I dont want to go somewhere that you just sit there talking yourself all the time.

Could anybody recommend a place or a person?

    Thanks for reading

    D

    Hey there,

    As per the PI charter:
We often get requests for recommendations for therapists and the like in particular geographical areas.

We cannot give recommendations - you should choose a therapist based on how well YOU get on with them not how well someone else does, any thread asking for recommendations will be locked.

There is an excellent thread in the Psychology Forum on how to go about finding a counsellor, therapist or psychologist for yourself HERE which we recommend you read instead.

Google or the golden pages should give you a start looking up therapists/counsellors in your area. There are also a number of links/sites you might find useful reading/in locating a suitable therapist/counsellor HERE.

    All the very best, OP.
