Just noticed on FlightRadar24 a German Airforce A310 at 34,000ft over Leitrim heading west, just wondering does anyone know where this aircraft would be going?

i know there fast jet pilots train in the usa [deserts of california] on american airforce jets.that was 1 of the reasons they [german air force] no longer fly their alpha jet trainers

Probably going state side for the Summer Red Flag training session in the US Navada weapons range providing mid air refueling . What was not seen on civilian radar updates on line would be the escorting Typhoons and Tornados. The A310 would give their tanks a top up over the Atlantic.

Thanks for the replies guys! I didn't realise the range on the A310 was that long so I wasn't sure if it was heading across the atlantic! I thought it might have been Frau Merkel heading to Mayo to visit Enda! :-)

If the aircraft was over Ireland, I highly doubt it was with a fast-jet formation. Firstly, those usually fly a northerly route via/overhead Scotland and Iceland so as to remain within range of diversion airfields. Also, such "tanker trails" invariably operate down in the mid-20,000s rather than at flight levels that would place them within the organised NAT track structure.

now there is a thought.i seriously doubt it but if that was the case maybe they could hang around for a while and make an apperance at the bray airshow,ha ha ha:D:)

Hey, yeah I noticed this aircraft aswel. It's not the first time I've spotted it.

It flies a course from over the UK, passes over Dundalk and then over Cavan and heads for the Atlantic. Flies right over my house actually. Thought it was a bit odd.

Ive noticed it 3 or 4 times in Irish air space in the last 2 months.

on a clear day would you see this from north county dublin seeing as you seem to be up in the dundalk / cavan general area as i would like to see this...was there anything else with it...i.e. tornado or typhoon?,thanks

Nope, never noticed any other aircraft accompanying it. Seems to be going the flight alone!

Yeah that route is usually for trans Atlantic flights. They come across the Irish sea and then make a right turn just off the coast to about 285-290 degrees and then head over Dundalk, Cavan, and Sligo. It's a common route for trans Atlantic flight coming from Europe incl the UK.

But yeah it's easily visible from where I am. Flies directly over my location.
