heading over soon and staying at Luna Forte de Oura complex. looking for some good restaurants...old town or new town does not matter.
ive already spotted a few on trip advisor but would like some recent recommendations from fellow boardsies :)

Sounds like you're out beyond the new town. Don't know much out there. There is a line of restaurants that are more local than touristy, down estr de Santa Eulalia. Ate in two places along there and twas grand grub and a great price.

Actually Casa de Compo is out in Almancil and is really nice if you want to treat yourself.

If you just want good solid grub, the best bets are along by the beach in the old town. Cabana Fresca and El Rancho are places I would return to. Mi sombrero is a mexican place there, massive slab of ribs.
Also Casa de Fonte near the tunnel is good, real traditional style grill and courtyard. And there are another few restaurants above the tunnel, "the beach basket" (can't remember the portuguese for that!) and a few more.

Avoid the main square for the most part.

We are 5 mins walk from the strip. Taxi ride from old town.
Case de fonte is exactly what I was looking for. Love a good fillet steak .
    Thanks for that

You can't go wrong in 90% of the places in the old town,
Everywhere we ate was lush, there was on place that did steak on a stone - a Mexican name, can't think of it.
Old town is much nicer than the new town (IMO) lovely place

Casa de Fonte. I love to try different places on holidays but couldn't help going back there 2 or 3 times. They do meat skewers hanging from tall stands (you'll see them there) which are fantastic!
Just beside the big arched tunnel to the beach in the old town.

Yes we would be more for Old Town restaurants too by the sounds of it. Steak on a stone seems to be the speciality and we LOVE nice steak :D

El Rancho down by the Fishermans beach does a savage steak on a stone.
Had one of my tastiest Chicken Piri Piri's there for lunch.

Starters a bit expensive in Casa de Fonte but I really like the place other than that. Has a bar section too for having a drink before or after.

If you want a coffee and cake, you're unlikely to do better than Florenca near the McDonalds. Never seen so many cakes in my life. Om nom nom

if you want to go a bit further head to Rui's in Silves or O'Litoral or Brassarie Marihna in Benagil.

That's the one I was thinking of, check this place out.

Cheap, clean, nice food, good atmosphere, good crack with the staff,
We went back the next day

Twas El Rancho by Fishermans beach I was at, but they look like they are run by the same people. Staff are good in the one in the old town too.

Not just beef steak, had a nice grilled swordfish steak there too!

Edit - Doppbell near the Hotel Baltum in the old town do a great lunch time pizza or salad.

Ah lads, ye have me hungry now for a meal in the sun with a super bock in hand.
Just as well I have Chicken Piri Piri marinating in the fridge since last night :-)
