Hi Im trying to work out my journey from Galway city to either Clonmellon or Athboy in Co Meath. I am volunteering at the Body and Soul festival at Ballinlough Castle and on their website they say the festival is nestled between these two towns. The problem is I cannot get any specific info on the Bus Eireann website relating to this journey. I know when I enquired about getting a bus to Life festival from Galway, I was told to get the citylink service to Kinnegad and get the Bus Eireann from there to Mullingar. Would this Kinnegad link also bring me to these towns in Meath. Thanks for any info, unlike British sites where you can list a destination and the site will tell you connecting buses or trains, Bus Eireann does not do this or make it obvious anyway.

The best way to go is get a bus from Galway to Athboy. The Dundalk express goes through the town. The festival is about 5 miles from Athboy. Should take about 3 hours 45 minutes from Galway.

That appears to be a combination of route 30 and route 70. First and only arrival is late afternoon and that seems to be C = Operates during College terms only and FO= Friday only.

It may be more practical to go via Dublin and then route 111 or one of the special services: http://www.buseireann.ie/inner.php?id=284

Unfortunately that useful cross-country Expressway route 70 was scaled back dramatically two/three years ago and now is only a skeletal service.

If you're going on Friday the fastest option would appear to be to go via Granard as follows:

Galway depart 15.00hrs (Bus Éireann Route 65 - a through bus and Cavan/Belfast will be shown as the destination).
    Granard arrive 17.43
change bus at Granard. A reasonable sized town - bus stops on the main street - should be easy enough to get a hot drink/light meal close at hand.

Bus Éireann local route 111 (will have "Athboy" and or "Dublin" on the front)

    Granard depart 18.30
    Delvin 19.15

The bus continues to Athboy but coming from the Granard direction Delvin is the nearest place on the bus route (4 miles to the castle).

A Galway to Athboy adult return (come back any day within a month!) is €35.15 online. The student return purchased online is €28.50.

It's valid any reasonable route so for instance you could go Galway to Delvin/Athboy via Granard but return via Dublin.

Just be sure when boarding the second bus on your outward journey that the driver does not cancel/punch your ticket (as then when it's time to return it will look as if your ticket is already used). It's ok to say something along the lines of "I've a through ticket to Athboy and I'm still on my outward journey".

Hey I'm organising a bus up, leaving on Friday at 7 from the cathedral then returning Monday midday if it helps - https://www.facebook.com/events/324004911017986/

Looks like BE are running buses directly to the festival, leaving from Custom House Quay is that's any use.
