VOLVO S40 Traction Control Light

    Hi guys,
    Just over 2wks ago i bought a volvo 2007 s40 2.0 in a garage.
Driving lovely for a week, then felt like i was driving on ice, traction control light flashing like a disco light. Car was all over the place. On a safe stretch of road with no car coming, i could accelerate (with my heart in my mouth) but the car cut down on power and went into drive home mode of 30mph.

I have a 3 month warranty, 2 months left. Garage man thought i was being dramatic, came with replacement and took car. he admitted it was death trap to drive. He turned off traction control and that got him home. He said it was ABS sensor problem and a week later (today) i got it back, "driving 100%, no problems"

Here's my current situation, when i turn on car and accelerate taking off, power cuts out for 2secs as the traction control light is flashing and then the car takes off without any problem. I am so angry as i only got the car back today, and he didnt tell me this problem. On the 4 occasions i started the car and drove today it did it every time. Please can someone give me some advice on what to do, i am thinking of just getting my money back but i'll be heart broken as its the car i want.

Ask or search on the UK Volvo Forums website. Someone over there must have had the same problem as you at some point.

Evar had traction control before? Sounds like its doing what it should be. Are you accelerating fast taking off? The slightest loss in grip between the fron and rear wheels is all is takes. Tried turning it off to see what happens?

Damp roads over the past couple of days, probably some form of Chinese rubber on the front and a fair bit of torque from that engine would all equal the symptoms described.

Especially if the OP has only had the car a few weeks and isn't used to it.

That sounds like the "Anti Skid Service" and the ABS module is gone. If you have a warranty get it done ASAP. Got mine done under extended warranty.
You should be getting the above message with the light permantly on.

    Instant fail on the nCT

The issues experienced by the OP certainly don't sound to me like the common brake pressure sensor failure, so the 2 posts directly above this one probably aren't relevant.

Hi I was just wondering if you got to the route of the problem as I'm having the same issue!!

The ABS pumps were recalled on these, so maybe that could be issue.

However - how much thread do you have left? Are they good, or chinese tyres? The S40/V50 activates traction control when there's even a slightest loss of grip.

Thanks for your reply, i have no idea how to use the forum lol!

    Ok heres my story,

An abs sensor was needed which i replaced and no faults or issues after that. Then i replaced the back tyres. However tyre man put on slightly bigger tyres on back and the traction light came on continuosly. So back to tyre place and he changed tyres to match front and now When i start car and take off the traction light comes on temporarily. i loose power but then keeping foot on accelerator it takes off and not a bother driving. Until i switch car off and take off again!

Hmmm. Sounds odd. I'd take the car to a mechanic with VIDA and get the car scanned. Maybe something will come up.
