    Hi, Looking for some info..

Myself and 2 kids ( and one on the way) have recently moved in with my partner, i gave up my one parent payment, have the forms for Fis to fill out..

Now my partner has been told that he will be working week on/week off.The company he works for this past 8 yrs have been trying to cut money left right and centre.. at the moment they are also trying to cut their meal and travel allowance by €50 a wk ... and their new idea is have them work every second week to cut cost... but to them its gonna benefit their customers ( they are gonna lose them over it) Anyways

What would we be entitled to.. we are also renting privately would we be able to claim rent allowance

You're usually barred from rent supplement if either of you are working 30 hours per week or more. You should apply for rent supplement, and ask them to assess your partner's work averaged over a two week period.

That's much less hassle, and possibly cheaper, than them paying one week, and then not the next week, although they technically they could decide to do it that way.

Rent supplement will be reduced depending on the combination of his wages, any social welfarep payments either of your are receiving including Family Income Supplement.

If you are looking for work yourself, you could apply for Jobseekers payment in your own right. If it is only your partner who is working, or if he is earning more than you, then he could apply for the FIS (provided that you are working 19 hours a week between the two of you). He can't apply for Jobseekers and FIS at the same time, but if he claims FIS you can claim Jobseekers for yourself and a half rate for the kids.

What will be best for you will depend on the sums.

How much is he earning? Are you working? If so, how many days do you work, and how much are you earning? How much is your rent? If you provide those details, someone can probably work out what you should be getting.

He should also get it put in writing that this is a temporary situation, and ask for a review every 3 months, in writing. That way, any redundancy entitlements will be protected if the company goes under in the future.

See here for more details http://www.citizensinformation.ie/en/employment/unemployment_and_redundancy/redundancy/lay_off_short_time_working_and_redundancy.html
