Does anyone know what the current rate of salary for the above position be? Would I be right in saying around 28-33k depending on any previous experience.

In Ireland? That'd be a generous salary these days. I'd say mid 20s to 28K would be what most places would be offering.

Average starting salary for a graduate engineer (ex. Jobbridge) was €30,500 last year. Keep in mind you have not stated location / experience, the role or the size of your employer. That figure would include Chem Engs who would be likely to skew the figure.
