Expense invoiced in someone else's name

I am a Sole Trader. I just purchased a rather expensive camera on Ebay UK from the official Canon outlet. The Ebay account is mine and registered to my address, so is the PayPal account associated with it.

I had the item shipped to a friend's address in the UK (the item was UK-shipping-only).

Canon (or the company that operates their eBay shop) issued me an invoice in my friend's name, stating his as not only shipping, but also billing address.

I contacted the shop and they say there is no way they can change the name on the invoice as it's the only address eBay gave them.

Am I going to be able to claim this invoice as a business expense?

    Hi

Assuming that the expense is incurred wholly and exclusively for the purpose of business then you should still be able to claim it as a business expense.

Thank you dbran. I offer web design and photography services, often linking both so yes, this is very much for business use.

Should I add (and keep in my books) a note from this friend it was billed to, explaining the situation? Also, printouts from eBay and PayPal with correct data?

I'm not registered for VAT, this should make it all easier.

    That should be fine.
The e-bay/paypal info (stapled to the invoice) showing that it was in fact you making the purchase should be enough in my opinion.
But as you said , you are not VAT registered so the above would suffice.
