Irishtown Stadium?

I've been getting back into training a bit, gymming it for about 6 months, and wanted to do a bit of track running to build stamina (cross trainers and treads are awful for longer than a few minutes). Weight loss is a goal too.

    I work near here: http://www.dublincity.ie/RecreationandCulture/SportsFacilities/LeisureCentres/Locations/pages/irishtownstadium.aspx

Is it a decent newbie-friendly place? I assume I can just show up with gear and pay for track time. Any other nearby recommendations for closed running sites?

    Ta.

I just play football there, and have never used the track, but it's a nice facility. They have a price list on display that includes one-off use of the gym or the track. I'm only there in the evenings, but its pretty quiet any time I'm there. They have signs up at the moment for a special offer on gym membership while the Euros are on, €150 for the year I think.

yes, you can pay as you go or join for a longer period. On Tuesday and Thursday evenings the resident club, Crusaders, train there from 6.00 PM onwards, but, as far as I know, it's no problem to use the track while they are there, providing you don't mind moving about a wee bit to avoid the crowds. Or you could join the club and get involved with the session they run - at the moment it's intervals on Tuesdays on the track and on Thursdays they go out to Sean Moore park to do longer intervals.

Track access is generally exclusive to members during the sessions from 1830 to 20:00. It's not so much that they mind you being there, but the club has almost 400 members and the track tends to be full to capacity, so to run on it during those times cannot really be done without disrupting the sessions, so as Roy says since you get free gym membership with the club annual fee and can jump into these sessions that's probably the best solution if you want to be a regular user. The club has coaches of all levels and a good social scene, so it would be very easy to get involved. If you prefer to train on your own I'd avoid the times the club trains. I do similar at Charlesland, it's just not practical to train around the club sessions as you feel like you're constantly in the way and some of the fast group will be hammering around the track and that could easily cause a nasty situation if someone is the slightest bit inattentive.

Its 100E to join Crusaders and with that you get coached plus you have unlimited use of the track and gym, great value.
I run there and there is room for all levels of ability from beginners to advanced. Friendly atmosphere too.
There is a membership form on the site http://www.crusadersac.org/

Once off usage is E5 a time. I've used it a few times and it's been perfect

Thanks for the advice everyone as with anything I'll start it off, and will definitely look into the crusaders if I end up doing it regularly. Thanks everyone!

If you have any interest in running at any level you should join Crusaders, and get access to all the facilities and the training sessions/plans/advice and indeed large collection of people to train with.

Really enjoyed it since I went down [despite missing far more sessions than I make :(]

This thread reminded me I have being meaning to join for a while. I have just signed up on their web site.
Focus for me will be on Ultras for the second half of the year, but I will try and fit in a few of the Tuesday speed sessions as well. It will be more enjoyable to do these with a group.
