    Hi

My daughter will hopefully be starting in NUIM in Sept...
She will be eligible for 100% student grant..
She lives 41km (according to Google maps) from teh college whereas the non adjacent rate allows for over 45km...
4kms?/ Any way round this? Anyone know how they measure the distance?

Don't think they do much leverage on it at all, I know someone at 43.7km away and they still get the lower rate of grant!

I've never understood how the figured out the distance. I think some county councils did it differently to others.

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

I had a google and found this from 2011:

So if you think you should be entitled to the higher rate maybe you should get onto a TD about it. Clearly you wouldn't be the only one, and I'm sure that this happened in other places than just Tipperary.

However if you're pretty certain you're under the 45km mark, and you're just feeling a bit disappointed, then unfortunately there's nothing that can be done as far as I know. If you fudge the figures even a bit it could have huge consequences in the future if they find out, so if I were you I'd put it down to bad luck and forget about it. I know it must be irritating to see you're so close to the boundary, but if you're under, you're under.
