UPC Digitial+ Scart to HDMI Question

    Hi,

I am buying a new AV AMP, and would like to convert as much of my cabling as possible to HDMI, and my only issue is with my UPC Digital + (non HD) box. I currently have UPC SCART to TV, and Phono audio connections from UPC Box to older AV AMP for surround ish sound.

Obviously the UPC box does not have HDMI out, so i thought that i could get a SCART to HDMI converter, then input it directly to the AMP, and use 1 HDMI from the AMP to the TV.

I am concerned though that this will work. Will i still get video AND audio back to the TV after the SCART to HDMI conversion process ?

    Any thoughts appreciated.
    Thanks.

It will work if you buy the proper converter and note that it will be an active converter and not a passive adapter. SCART outputs both audio and video so there is no reason why the signals can't be digitized and sent down a HDMI cable to the AV receiver by a converter.

The main advantage of doing what you propose is that you can then connect your DVD/Blu-Ray player and games consoles to the AV receiver and use the HDMI connection to the TV so all of the feeds to the TV will be through the AV receiver. This means that you can then control audio through the AV receiver regardless of where the signal is coming from.

I believe the newer non-HD UPC boxes have both SCART and HDMI so you could consider asking them for a new box or simply upgrade to HD and you'll get a new box with a HDMI output.
