Is anyone else disgusted with just merely the cosmetic aspect of the upgrade alone here? Who is going to want to buy the new retina MacBook Pro with its fantastic screen if everything in Aperture is black and white! It seems as if we are going back to the 90's!

if everything in Aperture is black and white!

Your photos are in color, which is the bit that matters.

note getting depressed by lack of imagination every time I open the app also matters

I quite like the new interface actually. And now you can share the same library with iPhoto which is very handy.

Does that mean less HDD space taken up? In the past you had to have two libraries for iPhoto and Aperture, right?

Only if you were previously importing the same photos into both apps. Otherwise it will take up the same amount of space, you just won't have two separate photo libraries that ignore each other. Personally I always imported casual snaps into iPhoto and only used Aperture for my DSLR/RAW stuff. It's easier just have a single unified library though.
