Problems with disk drive

    Hey,

I bought an e-machines E732Z back in September and it's been working absolutely fine until recently. A few weeks back however, I started getting problems opening DVDs in the disk drive. I have Windows Media Player as default, and whereas previously the DVD would play by default, now the drive made a lot of noise but nothign else happened. When I try to open it directly, I get the following prompt

"This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Please install a program or if one is already instaelled, create an association i the Default Program control panel"

A friend downloaded VLC player, and that has helped somewhat but I still need to fiddle and poke about in order to get the DVD working. Also: around the same time, I had some minor issues opening USB sticks, but that seems to have cleared up now. I only bought the laptop 9 months ago, so there shouldn't really be anything majorly wrong with it.

Any ideas on how to fix this?

    Thanks in advance.
