Rust on HT lead contact

I've got a lawnmower that has been sitting for about 2 years that wont start, and was hard to start before it was put away. Last summer when I tried to start it up I used fresh petrol but to no avail.

Anyway, I was trying to get it going again and I looked it over and when I popped the lead of the plug both the top of the plug and the contact were very corroded looking. I've scratched a bit of it off the lead and there is a bit of a shinier surface there now but it still doesn't start so I think that the plug needs to be changed too.

I haven't done this before but I have a decent socket set and a plug will probably be cheap enough so i'll change that anyway, but what can i do if the lead is too corroded? Are they easy to swap out (i haven't removed the plastic cover yet) and are parts handy enough to get for a husqvarna mower or should a motor factors have what i need on the shelf?

Also, I've seen other mowers go for years and never have the oil changed, but should this be done at the same time? The mower doesnt get much abuse but was left out in the rain a few times which is probably why it rusted. Are there any other service items on lawnmowers such as air filters or oil filters and are these easy to do and would they be required?

anybody have any ideas on this?

or would it be better off moved to the motors diy section or even the normal diy section?
