Ok usually only use a couple of hundred Mb's of data each month as mainly on Wifi. However I am two days into my monthly billing cycle and I have noticed i have used 720 MB already. I check stats online with my provider (Meteor) and it says 710 MB data was used two nights ago.

Is there a way on my phone i can check for this? The time it shows for the data usage I was on the way to a friends to watch the Ireland game the other night, cant see how 710 MB of data was used.

If you arent using the likes of 3G Watchdog PRO already then that information is gone.

You werent streaming music on the way? That can clock a fair bit(~500Mb day if you're like me and listen all the time).

If not, probably a rogue app, for that volume its worth checking uploaders like dropbox/photobuck/picasaweb(g+).

Turning off sync while your on 3G would be advisable for now.

I dont stream music at all. I use dropbox but generally dont upload or download from the phone at all. The odd PDF file I may download to check something on the go. But dont use this often.

i have got rid of few apps I downloaded in the last week. Have installed "My Data Manager" which have set to disable data if come close to using my remaining data. Will use a data manager from now on, never really concerned me before as have the same phone (SGS) for 18 months and generally always below 250 Mb usage every month. need to keep a closer eye on it.

There's a good chance it was one of those apps you downloaded recently. Did you use any of them 2 days ago.

No, The time as per my meteor (unsure how reliable this is) was when I was leaving house to go to a friends. I was busy getting stuff sorted and wasnt near my phone at all.

Its accurate enough, always matched what my 3G watchdog said (Well a few MBs off).

Can you see how much data you used since installing the data manager.

Would be interesting to see if its still using the data since un-installing those apps

The things is though on My Meteor the usage is showing as one set of usage of 710 Mb. If some app was running and using data its generally every so often and there are other little bits of data here and there from apps and emails but this is all in one lump.

Could it have been dropbox or google+ automatically uploading photos to your account?

Dont have G+ and Dropbox set to only upload when on Wifi.

Check your dropbox account and see what's in it now . I'd bet it's automatically uploading your photos......

You never know , for all we know dropbox has been updated , leaving the default option as upload through 3G

Ya. My data use went through the roof this month. Didn't really know why until I logged onto dropbox and saw all my photos were uploaded to it.........

It's possibly because apps like gmail, facetube & youbook etc. sync frequently if not constantly. After a month of being on bill pay with Meteor & buying a Sony Ericsson xperia x10 I ran up a bill worth and I kid you not €17,500!! The bill was 40 pages double sided because I had left my 3g data connection on loosely.
My Advise after arguing the toss with Meteor over several phone calls and their very helpful customer service team:
    download their app
if you're a youtube-aholic like me buy the data add on or else move to 3 for the all you can eat data
    Switch off your data frequently
If desperate buy an anti-virus or firewall app cuz I have read numerous threads on the android forum when my bill came in & after the near coronary, about worms & other malware stopping off on handset secretly usually be email attachment & demoloshing peoples data plans over night by repetitive pinging their handsets IP address.. A tactic some providers in other nations may have indirectly been linked to executing..

you wouldn't be charged for the uploading data, just the downloading of like confirmation java.

Eh? Up/down, it doesn't matter, it's all from your data allowance... no?

Funny enough...this is the only month I've ever received the same txt as you

Surprisingly no as mobile operators only meter or charge you for what data you receive unlike text messaging or calling which is very confusing to the ordinary consumer

Pretty sure your wrong about that.Uploading data online does come out of your allocation

Its defo not usage as mostly on wifi and when not I am only checking emails, the news, nothing major. I am not a heavy data user. As i said i use max 250 Mb every month for the last 18 months. Then all of a sudden 700 Mb in 2 days, its not something I am doing, it has to be something draining the data.

    Will check about anti-virus.

I can only find it referenced in their mobile hotspot data package -
Is upload and download usage taken out of my data allowance?
Yes. Both upload and download usage will contribute towards your data allowance. Similarly, if you go over your data allowance, your excess usage is calculated by adding together download and upload usage.

    http://www.meteor.ie/support/bbtg/bp_hotspot/ and http://www.meteor.ie/bbtg/t_and_cs/

No reason to assume the phone data is any different...

Why not contact them and ask them to verify the usage if you are so sure it isn't right?

Could be a bug in their software.

If you have any games like GTA or Sims Free play installed or maps that use local cache, maybe they downloaded something.

Only thing I can think of that would come in at that size all in one chunk.

I dont use heavy use games like that. I will ask them to verify usage. Have sent them an email to verify the usage.

I use map my run but havent used it in a few weeks as playing sports elsewhere so not jogging as much. I use map my run a few times a week before that and its fairly local area and its never used much data. I cant see that being the issue.
