    Hi

Just got my results and am 1% away from a higher mark and feel I did much better in my exams. What's the story with rechecking? I'm very disappointed as it's only 1%. I know the tutor is my first point of call but just hoping somebody might have some advice.

    The regulations state :

(vi) Any student who makes a request for re-check or re-mark that could have implications for their degree result is advised not to proceed.

So I don't know what to do ...

    thanks in advance

I've always been under the impression that when your grade is that close to a higher mark, the lecturers would've discussed bumping you up a mark and decided against it. If you get a 69, it's because they think you just don't have that extra special touch of gold dust to bring you up.

Still, you can get them rechecked if you really want.

Going on memory (and from quickly reading this page) you can't get them rechecked if you want, you need a reason, such as:
    (a) that the grade is incorrect because of an error in calculation of results;
    (b) that the examination paper specific to the student's course contained questions on subjects which were not part of the course prescribed for the examination; or
    (c) that bias was shown by an examiner in marking the script.

    And a re-mark as such:
Where a student seeks a re-mark on the grounds that the examination paper specific to the student’s course contained questions on subjects that were not part of the course prescribed for the examination:
Where a student seeks a re-mark on the ground that he/she believes ‘bias was shown by the examiner’:

I'm sure you're aware OP as you've been through college at this stage but a recheck in terms of college is different than a Leaving Certificate recheck in terms of you being entitled to submit a paper for a recheck automatically. The first step you should do is contact your department and go through each of your papers, checking for mistakes in calculations as lecturers can make mistakes.

It's worth noting that my information is not based on current regulations (apart from the above link) so best to check this all out with your tutor and/or the SU Education Officer.

    Best of luck.

I remember that line being discussed here before. It doesn't really make sense, but I don't think it's meant to discourage you from getting your papers checked - I think it's to do with the procedure you follow. Best thing to do is get advice from your tutor ASAP.

I know our head of department said she welcomes students checking their exam papers if we are not happy with them. I'm sure most lecturers/staff want their students to get the best results possible.

Tutor or Senior Tutor is your best bet.
