Advice on selling my 1987 Honda

    Hi Guys,

I bought this 1987 3rd Gen Honda civic just before christmas as my daily driver as I have a short commute to work. Since then we have found out that we are expecting our first baby and I now need a bigger car, i.e; more doors, better rear seatbelts etc. I now have to sell the car unfortunately to make way for the new one and I was looking for some advice on where to advertise apart from the usual car sites. Is there more specific sites I should post it up on?
To be honest, Id like to see it go to someone who would keep it original as opposed to a boy racer getting hold of it, but if needs must, I will need it gone soon.
NCT is booked for this saturday so will have a fresh cert when advertised.

    Thanks

    Chauffe, Marcel, chauffe!

We normally only allow for sale cars in the for sale sticky, but I'll make an exception for your car :)

It's very rare at this stage, being auto and all. What is it, a 3-speed auto?

And keep us posted, give us an update after the NCT test!

Sorry unkel, hadn't realised. Feel free to move the post if you think it's more appropriate elsewhere.

No it's a 4 speed hondamatic, and it's a 1.3litre, genuine mileage car that was in the possession of an elderly lady in Derry until 2010. She used it only on good days so I'm told and it was garaged at all other times. The mechanic I had look at it when I bought it was amazed that a NI car had survived with no rust at all.
Again it was garaged (except for Sunday drives) by the man who bought it and imported to Donegal, and now by me in the underground carpark of my apartment.

It wont have a problem with the NCT, I just presumed that no one would be interested in it without a cert.

    I'll keep you posted anyway

    Ok,
so she failed the NCT, but not by much. Needs a CV boot replaced on the front right side, and the parking brake needs to be tightened ( it had an imbalance between left and right wheel). Aside from that it had no problems.

The guy testing it said it is cleaner than most of the 2007 cars they test, never mind 1987, and he was amazed at the results of the emissions, apparently out performing most other cars he has tested ( I hadn't done anything beforehand by the way, i.e: no additives or motorway spin to clean it out) My only preparation for the test was replacing a rear brake bulb.

I was hoping for a first time pass but overall I was happy enough with the result for such an old car.

Getting a friend who is a mechanic to do the brakes and CV boot next week, and then re-test so it'll be going up on the car sale sites then.

Like I was saying in the original post, is there any other sites I should think of posting it on? Someone mentioned asking Honda dealers if they'd be interested in it for the showroom but I cant imagine they'd have much money to be throwing around on ornaments.

    Any help appreciated, cheers.

Sticking it up on here couldn't do any harm surely?

I haven't had any experience of selling a car like this but the vintage/classic section on donedeal might be an option. I'm sure it would also generate some interest on octane.ie .

How much are you selling it for?

Thanks, I'll take a look at octane.

I will be advertising it for 1250, but open to offers. Does that sound reasonable for a car like this?
