this was actually filmed a few weeks back.... our 3 eldest have now been confirmed as full members of bothe the C of I and the Methodist church, and Alan the Minister only has til the end of June before he moves on to another mission.

I'll watch it tomorrow, no broadband here. The picture froze on the bass, very nice work, it must be very rewarding work to build musical instruments. I hope all the good news just keeps on rolling!

You're a brave man posting this Martin, now people can put a face to the name! Seriously, you've a lovely family there and it must be great to be part of an experiment such as your church is engaging in, there is a lot of talk about ecumenism, but you guys are actually doing ecumenism. Obviously Methodists and Anglicans have a lot in common historically what with John Wesley being in the COE originally so the barriers are less, but impressive nonetheless!

In Wales this would be a big deal but in Northern Ireland? Okay in NI the Church of Ireland is slightly Calvinist but is it that Calvinist that it cant include Methodists? Are there any major doctrinal differences separating Methodism and Anglicanism in Northern Ireland?

In general though dont the Church of Ireland and Methodists in Ireland commune each other? Hasnt that being going on for a long time?

    commune?

pretty much all mainstream protestant denominations do, and we have joint services with anyone who wants to do it.

if there's a 5th sunday in the month then we share the evening service with the Presbyterians on the corner.

Doctrinally, methodist and anglican arent so far apart, what with the Wesleys being anglicans til they died.....

and yes there are other places in the world where unity between denominations has been going on for years, most notably in India, and there are a bunch of churches where two denominations share a single set of buildings, which is what we did for 30 odd years, up until 10 years back. The unity that we have is further than anyone else in ireland has done. we have one set of accounts!

Just to say, it is really fantastic to see this. Two churches uniting around the Gospel, and two churches co-operating together on a meaningful level. I always thought it was a bad thing that the Anglican church didn't embrace Methodism.

You have a lovely family Martin, and you are mixing with clearly lovely people. Wherever you see people getting along despite differences, but embracing the good, there you see Christ doing what he does :). Well done!
