I am considering upgrading my Sky subscription to a HD subscription in order to take advantage of the free Sky HD box alongside the three months free offer.

I already have one Sky HD box as an older box died not so long ago and Sky replaced it with the 1TB HD box. If I go for the offer, can I use the free HD box to replace my second multi-room box?

Basically, does the HD subscription cover all the multiroom boxes - or does it only allow you access to HD on one box?

If you have the HD pack on the main box,you now also get it on any HD multiroom boxes you have.
Only fly in the ointment is if Sky gave you the 1tb box at a reduced price, they may not give you another HD box free as you already got a deal from them.No harm in trying for one though.

Cheers, good to know that it applies to the multiroom boxes too.

I am actually checking on behalf of my parents. They did not get a deal on the HD Box - when the old white Sky + box died they were forced to pay out €120 for the HD box.

They specifically asked if there were any offers for upgrading to HD and they were told that there were none available. That is despite the fact that they should have been offered the box for free if they upgraded to a HD subscription, if I am reading into this correctly that is. They were basically conned into forking out for a HD box without actually getting the HD.

They should be able to get a deal so,make that point when ordering the new box.

Another point worth noting is that multiroom boxes DO NOT record. The first box is normally a Sky + box while 2nd and futher boxes are non + boxes.

I you have a SD subscription and have one Sky+ HD box and one Sky SD multiroom box then if you upgrade to HD they may only give you a non recording multiroom box.

By the way if you want to experience the HD quality, and seeing as you already have a HD box without a subscription, then some channels are available without paying the HD sub.

Through the guide there is BBC HD and also RTE 2 HD (go to channel 294 not 102). There is also one or two more, some you can add through other channels. This gives you an idea of quality. Not all shows on RTE 2 are in HD but most modern US shows are.

For the HD experience I normally recommend greater than a 32" TV and that you sit very close. Probably needless to say but make sure the TV is connected using a HDMI cable and not a scart or other type. (HDMI lead from Sky has a pink colour connector )

You could always buy your own HD+ box off somewhere like adverts.ie. I got the multiroom package a few years ago and was given a crappy 2nd box which was SD but didn't want to line their pockets with the 15EUR a month HD fee on top.

It was brand new out of the box and all I had to do was to pull up the installer menu and call Sky and pair my viewing card for the 2nd room to the new box. Took all of about 2-3 minutes and I was up and running.

Well I am not long off the phone to Sky, and I am very happy with the customer service that I received.

We determined that the offer was not made known because my parents were actually using an agent - apparently the Sky offers only apply if you are getting the service directly from Sky.

However after talking to a few people in Sky they gave me a good offer. They currently pay €82 a month for their Sky + / multi-room subscription which includes Sky Sports and the likes. For €80 a month they will now also get Sky HD and keep their existing packages. Furthermore Sky are sending out a second Sky HD + box for free with a free install.

I didn't expect that they would actually be paying less per month after contacting them today, so happy days!
