Advice on wireless thingy please ;)

Hi folks,
in a little over a month im moving back to dublin and am actually moving into the appartment directly above my sisters. She has UPC 50mb bband there and were going to try share it if possible. Without buying the latest all bells and whistles, what kind of wireless receiver thingy should i get?
I play quakelive and diablo 3 online. Thats about it. Currently happy out with my O2 usb thing. Budget is not huge..

Ive seen usb ones in Argos etc but i honestly am not very techy so some suggestions please

Any wireless N adaptor will do (make sure to get an N one as a G one will only allow around 20mb download iirc). I reccomend linksys, tp link, netgear etc. Avoid Belkin if possible

If you have a laptop you just click wifi icon in system tray, lower right side ,click on her network,say upc 450 .then put in password.CLICK ,remember this network,tick box.
you MAY NOT get a great signal, depending on what room you are in.
FOR a pc ,you can plug pc into wifi receiver with an ethernet cable,cable 5 euro ,there may be one supplied with the wifi unit.

Wireless G's top transfer speed from laptop to the router (anything else beyond that is the ISP) is 54Mbps (but that's maximum and average speed can be much lower depending on interference etc) which is fine for most things and downloading etc will be fine. If you're streaming from a laptop to an XBOX or media center, apple TV etc then wireless N would be much better and would transfer at over 100Mbps, sometimes better but only if the router supports it!

Yes, N is better but it's not the be all end all if you don't have it. It makes no difference to your internet speed (provided your not on the 100Mb package of course!!)

True but your never going to get anywhere near 54mbps on G, a N adaptor will likely be a better choice for a 50 meg connection. I think around 25-30mbps is the maximum realistic speed over wifi, especially taking into account interference/walls etc.

I have a D-Link DWA-140 Rangebooster that came with my router and i can recommend it . the PCIX wireless cards would be better then the usb ones but you would have to open the PC.
