NOthing out of the way for a rep in kms over 4 years.

If its km, then above average, but nothing too excessive for a car thats 4 years plus.

it's only 111,000 in miles, nothing to sweat over.

at least the miles are genuine, and its not clocked back to 90,000 km's

It might be normal for a rep but its still huge mileage for a car to have done in 3 and a half years. Doesnt necessarily mean its not worth buying though.

I'd say its a former rep car just handed back at the end of a 4 year lease. It would more than likely have had a main dealer service on the button each time it was due.

Wouldn't be bothered by that mileage at all.

Then again it could have been drive by a head case!

Depends on what it is and also what sort of mileage you're going to do yourself. Also check the service history if its been looked after and serviced regulary it should be grand. Does the price reflect the mileage ?

Funny you should say that, as I know of a 4 year old Audi a6 that was traded into a main dealers recently, in absolute mint condition and close to 400k km. it was been passed onto the trade and the opposite of what you think crossed my mind, as it would have been easy for someone along the line to knock off half the total but still sell it as a high mileage car. no guarantees in the auto world unfortunately

Average mileage in Ireland is aprox 10K (miles) for petrol cars and 15K for diesel.

So unless it's a rep car or taxi it has travelled as much as a 10 year or older car.
But as said, some cars can take it no bother.
But make sure to actually ring the garages on the service history. A car like that must have been serviced well.

Id prefer a 180000km car tbh
More than likely its a rep mobile, has been serviced and maintained on the button.

Also, with the mileage (kilometerage?) at that high, its less likely to be clocked

The other thing as well is to get that kind of mileage onto a car in that space of time you'd imagine it would have to be predominantly motorway miles which I wouldn't even consider mileage to be honest. Cruise control and a motorway I'll take any day over something idling away in traffic all day changing gears about 4000 times but adding 12 miles to the clock..

That article is 7 years old though, the information is outdated and those figures are too low imo. People drive alot further these days especially those who bought homes in commuter towns/villages before the property bubble burst, I'd say 15k miles for petrol and 20k miles for diesel would be the norm these days.

180k km is still above average for a car going on 4 years old.

I'd say that there are a lot of more important issues than the 180,000km. If it's been properly serviced and well maintained then check if there are any major upcoming items (possibly a timing belt at 200,000km) or known weak components that tend to fail with age. That 180,000km could easily just be an 80km each-way commute to work on decent motorways and national routes which is nothing out of the ordinary.

I would conjecture that the average for diesels might have fallen (or not increased as suggested above) since that survey, since everyone and his mother bought diesels since 08, and a good chunk of them would be still only doing small journeys. ("DPF regen, what's that?"). I'd love to see some up to date figures.
