    Hi Folks,
I need to replace the brake pipes on my car.
So first question, which is best, Kunifer or Copper?

Where is the best place to source either of them in Ireland?

Kunifer is better as a brake pipe material. Downsides are it is a bit more expensive tham copper and a bit more difficult to bend and flare.

Copper is cheaper, easier to work with, more widely available. It isn't as good a material as Kunifer but should be well up to the task on any normal road car. Any leaks or other issues are far more likely to be down to the person doing the job rather than the material itself.

Any motor factor will have copper pipe in stock. Some will also have kunifer.

Most motor factors carry copper rather the Kunifer.
    I rang this place http://www.workshopdirect.ie/Departments/Products/Piping-and-Clamping/Kunifer-Piping.aspx

They probably supply a motor factor near you.

You will need a good quality flaring tool todo this, most modern brake pipes are probably double flared. So there will be a two step process flaring the ends.

Maybe easier/cheaper to bring the pipe to a local mechanic to make one up for you and fit yourself.

I know nothing about this but I just wanted to say to the OP and respondents its a pleasure to read a thread with the word brake spelled correctly all the way through.:)

Buy a good flaring tool and pipe bending tools/pliers and it will make the job much more enjoyable. I have a Sykes flaring tool and it is great. I think it cost around €100.

thats good to hear because i have budgeted €100 to buy this stuff! For the tools just go to the local motor factors i guess???

    I bought this one http://munstertoolco.ie/flaremaster2-kit-41000.html
It comes with all the dies to make the different flare type, pipe cutter, pliers todo tight bends and a de-burring tool. It has never failed to make a good flare.

There are probably others that are just as good, just my recommendation.

That one looks great. But its out of my price range! I dont want to spend too much because its not sonething that will get used very often!!
