Surface rusting underneath

While taking the towbar of my 2006 Hilux at the weekend I noticed some surface rust starting to appear all over the underside. The vehicle has never been near salt water. What is the best way to treat this and prevent the rust from developing? Is there some product I can spray on to cure this? Thanks.

You can spray on some "Toyota forgot the underseal". It's great stuff but I find it hard to get it to stick somtimes.

Thought I'd replied to this but must have forgotten to send :o

The stuff Pottler is on about is shutz or waxoil, black sticky sh!te you spray on. Comes in 1l cans you screw on to a shutz gun (need a compressor) which blows it over the chassis, the drive, the dog, yourself and anything else in the vicinity, it's a truly disgusting job to carry out. Basically coats the chassis in bitumen.

You'd need to thoroughly clean the chassis and knock off any loose rust. It will take at least 6 cans, used 12 on my 101 but it's cheap enough.

LOL Sean, I was slagging Toyotas crappy underseal and their policy if you go to them and complain, but yeah, bodyschutz is the job - it comes in aerosols as well OP and they are easier and cleaner to use, I don't bother with the compressor version anymore, it's too messy. Is the Toyota an import?

Guessed you were but it probably confused the OP!

It's not only Toyota when it comes to chassis protection either

Is it a Euro model Hilux or a Hilux Vigo (Thai)?
