Aerial not picking up clearly

Using a crappy, cheap aerial so I'm not sure if that's affecting the picture quality coming through (fuzzy/b&w sometimes, then colour etc). Also not picking up 3e. All the channels are coming through in the 500Mhz zone. Would picking up a different aerial improve matters? If not, no big deal. Don't have cable/don't want cable.

Are you tuning in the Saorview digital channels or just the analogue channels using an arial? If you do not have a Saorview compatible TV then it might be worth picking up a Saorview box for €50 in the likes of DID Electric which will give you the terrestrial channels in digital signal, with some in HD and an EPG.

Just the analogue channels using the aerial. Is that the best I'm going to get out of that then?

Depends on the arial and the signal it can recieve. It might just be that its not able to pick up a decent signal and you need to move it somewhere else, or it might be that you need to replace the arial.

Personally Id be inclined just to get the Saorview box. Better picture and service, and analogue will be switched off soon anyway (in the next few months) so whatever you do is only going to be short term and youll end up getting Saorview either way.

Type your address or town into here:

    http://www.saorview.ie/make-the-switch/coverage-map/

This will show you your nearest TV mast. If it is close (within 3 miles) then the signal should be OK. If it is further away then an indoor aerial may or may not work. Generally a professionally installed rooftop aerial is recommended for a once off cost of less than 150 euro.

If you are paying 160 per year for a TV licence then a once off cost to get a decent picture is worth it. And as already said a Saorview box is needed before end of October or your TV will get no channels.
