    hi guys
    i have two bikes:

    cube pelaton with 27speeds

    lapierre rcr500 with 24 speed

if i put the rear wheel of the cube on the lapierre, will it allow to change gears, will it forever search for gears, or will i just loose 1 gear and will everything else work fine?

    thanks

    ed

It'll search for gears though you might get away with it for an emergency. The 8-sp and 9-sp cassettes have the same overall width but narrower spacing on the 9-sp. You can do an alternate cable routing to step your 9-sp shifter down to 8-sp.

Not just easier to plonk the old 8sp cassette on the new wheel? It saves you any problems with indexing. The 9sp and 8sp shimano hubs are interchangeable cassette wise.
