Platinum Eng Ring & White Gold Wedding Band

    Hi
Just wondering has anyone got a white gold wedding band and a platinum engagement ring or vice versa?
I've been told by different people and jewellers that the platinum will wear down the w.gold so would be better off going with platinum ring.
However I've also been told by other Jewellers that this is nonsense and the amount of wear will be minimal.
    Any opinions?
Platinum is so much more expensive than w.gold I dont want to get it just for the sake of it.

I think it'd be foolish to wear two different metals so close together, it will not wear well. If you have a platinum engagement ring, then get a platinum wedding band.

i think you need to recognise also that the platinum ring will wear slower than the other and it will make the white gold one look duller!

they say get the white gold dipped every year i have a white gold engagement ring that i wore for 2 years before getting it dipped, and even though after i noticed the difference, before it was dipped it looked the same as ever to me as i adjusted to the change slowly with it.

with the platinum ring you'll notice it and be getting the white gold dipped more frequently (cost factor may apply here)

I am getting a white gold wedding ring now to match the engagement ring.

your options as i see it,

    - only wear the wedding ring,

    - get a platinum wedding ring and maybe get your partners in white gold (cost factor)

    - have a look at palladium, its new and its very like platinum, but more cost effective (so far, as its fast becoming the popular long lasting metal price will be increasing)

true, I'd been also told that wear between the metals would be minimal, unless you rub them together like 2 pennies... ;)
However, the colours are different so you'd notice having two different coloured metals on your finger. I don't know what size ring you're looking for but it's possible to get a plain thin band for <500 (yes, it's expensive compared to white gold, but considering you probably already spent a lot on the engagement ring, it's probably relatively "cheap")

thanks for the replies, my eng ring has diamonds set around the shoulders so was looking at getting a thin band with similar small diamonds. Might just have to go the plain band route though, dont think i'll chance the white gold :)
