I have them and ended up in a hedge yesterday. I blame the wheels. Hope this helps.

Can't go wrong, good entry level wheels. These and Fulcrum 7's are held in high regard at this price point.

Bought a set from cycle superstore on their wed offer. Very good wheel. Didn't use the tyres that came with deal. I put gp4000 on instead. Used them today in Wicklow and happy with purchase.

Good wheel but if your on the heavy side they can cause problems.

Best entry level wheel available IMHO!

When I bought mine I was over 90kgs and they've been completely bullet proof!

Having had to replace some spokes on my Aksiums and finding out that they are a total an utter rip-off, there is no way that I would purchase a wheelset that doesn't use regular j-bend spokes again. That being said, they are a good strong wheel and if I hadn't had a accident, I doubt I would have had any issues.

Was over 90 kg's when I had them, they were brillant for about 6 months but had a few spokes breaking and back to LBS to re-true the wheels a few times. They are a good wheel for the price but I just think my weight was the reason for the problems I had.

Wheels are fine but I wasn't impressed with the Mavic Aksium tyres that came with mine. Replaced them after 7 weeks with just 2,500kms on them.

I'm just over 80kg and have never had a problem with these wheels. Good deals on them occasionally - I bought a set second hand and they are fine and then got another set for another bike in the cycle superstore deal. About the same as fulcrum 7s.

Changed my own wheels recently, as per this thread. Close call, but I ended up with Fulcrum-7s which are rolling very well. They came out as better value than the aksiums, given I already had my tyres of choice.

What's a reasonable price (for the buyer) for second hand aksiums in good condition?

    Hi,

I bought a pair of these late summer 2012, new. Red labels, Campag freehub setup. I paid just over €200. They are, I would say, a good foot onto the 'proper' wheel ladder. They roll nice and still the bearings are in good nick after c.6000 (well maintained, careful) kilometers. They are light and look the part.

On the negative side I would say they have poor lateral rigidity, if you like to power up hills grinding the Big Ring they will flex or rather the rear one will. Ditto Wishbone Ash: the matching tyres are pants: poor compound, poor wear. Fine when new on a bone dry day but even an early Autumn glisten on an evening road left me feeling very twitchy. Also the spokes have a habit of twisting which negates the aero function of them. Easy but constant task to realign them (again this is confined to the non-drive side on the rear).

I've liked them, warts and all.

Overall: On the money. Pleasant, once looked after.
Caveat: Stock tyres are DANGEROUS IMHO. I've added Yksion Pro Power/Grip-Link, much better.

    Re: secondhand.
That is a very subjective proposition. Wheels and tyres are the feet and shoes of a bike and so it would be wise to put a fair amount of your overall budget towards these. Hold any wheel either side of the axle and spin, if you feel a-n-y-t-h-i-n-g then the bearings are worn. Also, whilst fitted to a bike, check for side to side play: flex is okay but not a loose, free rattle. If they satisfied all the above and look practically new but have seen even 5 - 10k on the road then I would offer no more than €150. Caveat emptor and get on your bike.

Me = 75kg, male, typically 80-90rpm Big Ring fan.

I'd also recommend changing the tyres first day if they come with the Mavic Aksions - brutal to try and get off if a puncture arises & also was amazed since changing to Michelin Pro4's at how the bike glides over the road surface compared to before.
