    That's nice.

If you are looking to buy a laptop, please include the following information in your post:

Budget: How much you are willing to pay. More is not always better

Intended use: E.g. college work, internet, e-mail, Word processing, programming, games, development, whatever. It makes a big difference.

Mobility: Generally speaking, the smaller a laptop, the more you will pay for it. So if mobility is not important, make sure and state that

Warranty: Is a warranty important? Extended warranties tend to be expensive, do you need the piece of mind? Or would you rather wing it and fix the laptop yourself if something goes wrong? I would. :D

What Operating System do you use? If you are used to using a Windows based pc/laptop, chances are that is the best option. If you use Macs then you might lean towards buying a Mac.

If you have a general question on a laptop you already own, chances are, it has been answered already. So please, DO A SEARCH. I can't emphasise it enough, especially since search is working again.

1400 is a tonne of cash.

The only thing that jumps out of your list is "Gaming", maybe you could be clearer about what you want?

If you're happy with new games on low/mid settings then you could chop your budget in half.

Get a series 7 chronos. They're a nice laptop, have one myself. Light, very powerful and great for gaming.

I'd wait a week or two for the new XPS 15, shaping up to be a very nice machine .

for that cash you will get top of the range laptop anyway. really is excessive for college :D
just get a game console instead and spend 700 odd on the laptop which will get you 6Gb ram, large hdd (or ssd), id expect 1 ubs 3 port also and you will appreciate it longterm,

programming, the most you will need is ram, and 8gb is plenty for pretty much anything.
then check graphics cards against games you want. you will probably end up with a 720p screen which is fine (imo) for laptop (since size is small anyway, pixels arent really visible.

look into multiple devices for that money :)

get a 13 or 14 inch laptop for college that's pretty light. the novelty of dragging around 15.6 inch laptop will wear off pretty quickly.
Dell 14z ultrabook should be coming here soon. Otherwise go for a 13.3 ivy bridge. HD 4000 graphics will easily let you run gta and fallout.

Highly recommend the XPS 15 (especially if the new one has the same RGB+ panel).

Full HD with excellent colour reproduction, Quad Core i7, huge HDD (750GB+), amazing speakers and OK graphics. You won't be playing Crysis on this thing, but it can handle Fallout 3 and Source games quite comfortably.

The standouts on the XPS 15 are the screen and the speakers. The panel is wonderful - full HD with a high PPI - HD movies look amazing. The second standout, and by far the most impressive are the speakers. I've shown these things to some serious audiophiles, and I've yet to have a reaction that isn't overwhelmingly positive. The quality is just stellar, and the subwoofer really does help.

I almost bought the XPS 15 on Dell.ie when I could get if for €720 (it was discounted a week ago and I found a coupon code on top of that) but the screen is only 1366x768, and I found someone saying the 1366x768 screen is terrible. :/

Yeah, €1,400 is far more then you probably actually need to be spending.
