    Hi Guys,
Just a quick question about garda vetting. Basically, I work as a contracting aircraft mechanic, and to work in Germany I need to get security clearence from the gards!
I was told in my local station to send of to the place in Thurles which I did, but the letter I got back stated..... ''not to be construted as proof of no convictions, a police certificate, garda reference or garda vetting."

I don't understand why when I apply to the garda vetting service, pay them a fee and then they send me out something that clearly says this is not garda vetting

Anyway, the German authorities wouldn't accept this, anyone know where I can go from here??

For a visa or a job in a country other than Ireland you need a police certificate of character which is applied for in your local station and issued by the superintendent in charge of the district.

For a job in Ireland, you apply for vetting as it seams you have done.

Edit: can't comment on the letter you received from vetting. Never seen one before.

So what purpose could the letter he did get be used for?

Without seeing it, it sounds like he may have made a data protection request asking to outline any convictions. That's the only thing I can think that it might be.

OP if you go to your local district HQ, gets a form for a police certificate of character, fill it in and hands it in at the desk, no charge required, you'll get a letter which is used for adoption or visa's, and should cover you in this scenario.

    Thanks for the replies guys!
I was in the garda station and I saw that form but it says on it that its only applicable to situations outside the EU (my gf had to get one for an american visa)
I asked the garda at the desk and he said its very unlike the superintendent would accept it for my situation as I was staying within Europe! I might just get one, fill it in and stick it in an envelope addressed to the superintendent with a letter explaining my case, see how I get on!

Yeah thats what I applied for, I think the charge was €6, and then it specifically states not garda vetting!!

When staying within the EU you apply for the job, give them vetting access through whatever police they have and that police force requests information from here. Its covered under the various EU agreements on policing.

So for you it would be granting permission for the company to vet you through the Germans, when they have done their part they would ask AGS and the vetting would be then given to the company your applying to.

I always find it worrying when companies send people directly to AGS, suggests they havent a clue and are a bit of a cowboy operation.
