We are renovating my old family home, its not a massive job but when we have no building experience its a bit daunting. We knew what we wanted so plans were easily drawn up and planning has come through this week:)
I have 3 builders in mind who I want to price the job but I kind of want to have an idea about what insulation, windows etc will be needed. I don't want a builder pushing whats easier for him on me. Eg I have my doubts about external insulation. Do I go ahead and ask the builders for a price and see what they are offering or would I contact a BER advisor first to advise me whats needed? Thanks

Ideally you get a ber / energy assessor inconjunction with an architect/ arch technician to do a detailed set of specifications for the builder to pricet , these may include detailed drawings if required. This forum in littered with examples of why this should be your next move.
    Best of luck
